Large sections of the left started ignoring the pandemic in 2022 and they now have nothing to say about increasing levels of sickness and disability.

They (rightly) criticise welfare benefit cuts but offer no critique on how we got here.
I honestly don’t think I’ve anything left to say about COVID-19.

Whatever we say, it’s ignored by the authorities.

It’s also being ignored large numbers of people who should know better.

For me, this ⬇️ post sums up one big reason why we’re not getting anywhere.

The Government should be addressing the causes of sickness and disability

They don't want to admit there are so many people with long Covid. If they did they wouldn't be able to cut benefits.

I will repeat this again. COVID isn't over. The Neoliberals decided their wealth was better than your health. 😷☮️✌️✊
COVID-19 isn’t over.

An estimated one in ten people have long Covid in the U.K.

Infection control isn’t being taken seriously by the Government or the NHS.

COVID-19 affects the brain, so is bad for your mental health.

Yes, this is a global crisis. It’s not just the US who have a problem.

Most of the public are oblivious though as the authorities don’t talk about it. For example, the authorities are happy to let COVID-19 harms get blamed on everything else.

It’s getting worse.

That’s because the « left » you are referring to is actually the pseudo left, working hand in hand with capitalist governments to dismantle public health.

Here’s scientifically grounded coverage of the COVID pandemic:

5 years of the COVID-19 pandemic: The response of the World Socialist Web Site
The WSWS’ record stands as an irrefutable indictment of the capitalist response to the pandemic and a testament to the necessity for a global socialist public health program to save lives.

I have repeatedly run into leftists of all stripes that call me a “covid dead ender” for not wanting to ignore this.

But how is never ending increases of death and disability not a dead end to them is what I’d like to know.

I'm thinking of the leftist content creators I follow who never mention Covid. They go to conferences, travel, no masks. Then they get sick, no testing, "just a cold". They disappear for a while or work sick. Over & over. They talk endlessly about social justice issues but never this one.

Nope, the left. The right obviously don't care & liberals think they care but there are self-proclaimed leftists who support marginalized groups but are silent when it comes to masking & otherwise protecting disabled & immunocompromised people (& all of us tbh because Covid does not discriminate.)

Labour arguably stopped being left leaning since Blair.

This government is just as much as a disgrace to this entire nation as much as the Tories are.

Not that we can call Labour left any more but the total absence of divergence from Tory policies on Covid is making me very angry being CEV and not having been told by anyone that I am not any more.

Yes it's fucking disgraceful. Labour are cutting funds for the disabled. Keep on masking beautiful people 😷. The government seem intent on mass democide.

The infected blood scandal is claiming the lives of 2 people a week. They’re still waiting for compensation. Disgraceful.

How many are dying under our ‘living with Covid’ policies?

How many are being disabled by our ‘living with Covid’ policies?

Will they get compensation?

The number of long term sick & disabled has skyrocketed since 2020.
Growth in the economy is virtually non-existent.
Welfare cuts are being made.

Yet how many journalists have joined the dots to the huge impact the pandemic & Covid has had & is still having?

It’s pathetic.

‘Young people living with debilitating symptoms caused by long Covid feel abandoned. Kaylee, 17, a once promising gymnast, developed the virus on her 12th birthday & experiences dizziness & shortness of breath, causing her to miss school & give up the sport she loves’.

“Since the pandemic…” says Liz Kendall in her Commons statement.

That’s part of the problem. Labour won’t admit COVID-19 is still having a big impact.

COVID-19 can weaken the immune system, which means that people are getting ill more often.

Long term sickness is escalating.

The NHS GP-Patient Survey is 5 times bigger than the ONS Survey with nearly 700K respondents.

They estimate over 3M people in the U.K. have long Covid. COVID-19 is still causing long Covid yet we’re doing nothing about it.

We should prevent illness not punish disabled people!

As far as I’m aware the only U.K. politicians who have posted about long Covid Awareness Day today are the leaders of @TheGreenParty.

Well done to @carla_denyer and @AdrianRamsay 👏👏

We can’t have growth without workers ffs.

#CleanAir & vax for all who want them would be an investment & create jobs & growth.

You won’t get long term growth in the economy unless you address the causes of illness and disability.

This is so obvious but most politicians are ignoring it.

I was pleased this was raised by Professor Danny Altmann at the recent meeting of the long Covid APPG.
