Writer. Scripts, but before that journalism. Still stumbles across a story every now and then. Makes swords, fixes robots, likes cats. Even better in person.

I have ADHD and who knows what else. He/Him.

If people _want_ to talk about Die Hard, we should talk about how the first 20 minutes are a family drama (complimentary).

It's Holly and John failing to communicate again and again and it does not get the respect it is due. The action in the film hits harder because of this humanity.

Also, we watched the first bit of #StrangerThings last night - and, yeah - it's fun. It'll do.

But.

At one point in the show, set in '87, a character refers to another as a "sorcerer" because their powers are innate.

Sorcerers didn't show up till 3rd ed in 2000, not as innate casters.

I don't want to humblebag but I reckon it would take only one ghost visiting me on Christmas Eve to make me change my ways.

I've got Father Christmas coming over for his annual suit repair and adjustment. This year we are going to film it.

I'm posting this now so you can have a few fun days not believing me. Ho-ho-ho.

I was simultaneously a giant dork but I was pretty cool in my early 20’s, I went to gigs and did insanely cool things like tour with comedians and do stand up

Hypothesis: It's not cool to think you are cool but it is cool to think you were cool.

Show me pictures of when you were cool! What in hindsight was cool about that moment? #cool

If anything you say can and will be taken in evidence, do they have to give you a copy?

What I'm saying is if you get arrested, can you use the arrest as a free dictation session? What if I only talk about Pokémon? Maybe freeform some Pokésongs? Will they type up the lyrics for me?

Every version of this story is some version of ‘well you couldn’t expect me to be able to afford to buy the house I currently own’ and yes that is the point welcome to the housing crisis.

Can confirm.

Source: grew up on a farm.
Yet again, I am going to ask everyone to look at the 'farmers' hands driving the tractors / being interviewed in this protest.

If they have soft hands they are not farmers, they are tax dodging managers. Farmers have giant sausage fingers covered in cuts.

damn, well I'm sure the MET will come down on them with the same enthusiasm they have for arresting climate protestors

Nature is beautiful: here you can see the adult buses circling together to protect the baby buses from busivores that would otherwise prey on them
So this happened in Oslo yesterday. Four articulated buses got stuck in a roundabout.

It's looking as if the farmers protest in Whitehall today have ignored the police request not to bring their tractors.

Just to give everyone a heads up, with the AI bubble popping soon, this is your last chance to tell the annoying clankers you know they are idiots before everyone realises they are idiots.

If you want to be able to say 'I told you so' you need to act fast!

Cow -> Cows
Pig -> Pigs
Horse -> Horses
Sheep -> Sheep?!?!

Did someone steal the plural word for sheep? Because it's definitely gone.

Also missing is the word for more than one bit of debris.

do you have any idea how much you have to piss somebody off to make them change their gauge
#Finland will begin to #Russia - proof its rail network, integrate with EU train infrastructure.

The Finnish government has announced the conversion of its rail network from Russian gauge (1,524 mm) to European standard (1,435 mm).

From a game design perspective this is a really nicely designed rule. It functionally takes the most powerful players out of the game in a way that feels triumphant, so the field of players is always changing.
Of the last twelve authors who have won the Booker Prize, only two (Marlon James and Douglas Stuart) have published another novel since their win. Obviously very recent winners skew the stat, but still a surprising figure to me.

Worth a read (though you may need to register to read it for free):
That difficult second Booker: the long-term impact of a win
In the week since its victory, 2025’s Booker winner David Szalay’s Flesh experienced a boost of 1,441% in week-on-week sales, according to NielsenIQ BookData.

We went out to the West End of London on a Saturday night. It was brilliant. Tube in, a meal (Dim-Sum) and a play (Titanique) then home on the tube.

Titanique is incredible. Also Adrianne Langley, who played Rose, is now on the list of performers that I will go to see anything they are in.

You can't be a main character unless you dramatically change your haircut every two years.

Otherwise flashbacks won't work.

Hey. It's pretty grim out there, but I've just discovered it's fun talking about computers like an old person.

'In my day CPUs had a single number, the higher the number the faster it was. That was it.'

'We didn't even have GPUs growing up, they came later. Before then everything was 2D.'

Did they use A.I. to generate the most unwelcome WhatsApp notification of all time?

Also 'Black Friday Week.' is a strange concept chronologically. Friday Week, implies Friday Friday.
