I’m at the freedom of religion and belief conference in Barcelona and I love that it’s absolutely multi lingual, with panels in Spanish, Catalan, English, Portuguese, and I’m hearing Italian, German, Dutch.

My brain is confused, but it’s beautiful

I’m witnessing two super American exchange students talking to two super German exchange students. The Americans are overexcited about booking Ryanair and going to other countries and the Germans are totally confusing, they have a “so what?” Look on their faces

Do you like podcasts?

If you're a religion nerd, you need to listen to Keeping it 101! keepingit101.com

I particularly like the episodes on adoption but in general it's great for everyone who wants to know more about religion

They shot an unarmed mother in the face in front of her wife then called her a “fucking bitch”.

They kidnapped a five year old and used them as bait.

They deported a two year old despite a judge’s orders.

They maced, pistol whipped, and disarmed a nurse legally carrying then shot him nine times.

Asked ChatGPT how it thinks I look like and that’s the answer…

That’s because I use it for python codes and we all know women don’t code, so I must be a man

What's Christian Nationalism?

When we hear Trump talking about MAGA, this has to do with religion. He has nostalgia for a mythical past where everybody was Christian, and he hopes for a future where everybody will be Christian.

I'm just getting on the 2016 trend and that's me getting my PhD... I was in my prime here, about to move from the U.S. to Germany just before the first Trump's election. I had a lot of hope and my brain was functioning really well

The my little pony movie has a blond-haired orange pony character who is dumb and power-hungry and wants to invade the lands of unicorns and pegasi, whom he hates because he’s racist.

It sounds too much like current affairs

Can you criticize the Pope?

In theory, if you're Catholic, you're expected to listen to the Pope. Because, differently from other religions, Catholicism has a central main authority, which is the Pope.

The problem with doing a PhD in the US:

Americans are very kind and they kept telling me I was good.

But then I went back to Europe and I understood I knew nothing.

Italy has many faults but after WWII they created a lot of different police forces that are very small, some depend on the army and some don’t, and you would ask, why?

Because relatively weak police corps prevent coups d’etat as they don’t have power to take over
