Nothing will ever feel like hearing Boards of Canada for the first time.

I guess I downloaded this compilation a million years ago, but never listened to it. Anonymous Various Artists - Covert.
Apparently some big names on this one. touched.bandcamp.com/album/covert

Favorite AE remix: Lamb - Gold [Autechre remix]
January 22, 2026 at 4:46 AM
One should not be too concerned about the variance in loudness between songs (unless it's really extreme.) Look at Autechre's "SIGN": As low as -18 LUFS and as high as -11. Dynamic range from 14 to 3! Worse comes to worse, you turn the track up or down.

Looking back at your accomplishments is nice, but you can't live there.

Surely, totally unrelated:

I'm not sure what the ending of Enemy (2013) means, but I still really like this movie.
January 18, 2026 at 3:26 AM
Uh oh, someone said "Aliens," so I guess I have to watch it tonight. (From the Alien Anthology blu-ray, 2010.)

Once again, big shout-out to Mudlogger (on IG) and Machine Aura for some of the sample material on this one.
I threw a bunch of random stuff into the Tonverk and made some good music with it.

One more adjustment on a track, then it's finished.
15 tracks!

I always forget that you have to render tracks with Analog Heat on it via "online render." That is 1x because it's a real thing through which audio is passing.
January 17, 2026 at 6:59 PM
Mastering is never easy. I mean, it can be, but it requires more than just "render to -14LUFS." LUFS is an average loudness measurement, but it doesn't tell the whole story of a track with peaks, valleys, plateaus...
You really have to listen and look at the meter.

I am cobbling together a fantastically weird album. And I think it's my best yet.

20 tracks is too many tracks. I gotta chop it up.

It puts me in a place. Real soundtrack music right here, film optional. That's the best when the music can stand on its own without the visual component (which is probably good, too) @cicadasirens.bsky.social

I remember people what I was into and i'd say "dance music." They'd reply, "how do you listen to dance music?" Like, they didn't understand that, yes, you could enjoy dance music for the sounds, rhythms and musicality; you didn't actually have to dance to it.

1995 was a big year for techno/house/club music for me. As such, Moby was pretty huge. My very first tracks definitely sounded like "Bring Back My Happiness" and stuff from Everything Is Wrong. This album had elements of jungle, house, etc. I was so into it.

One of the reasons I'm loving the Analog Heat right now is because the analog filter actually adds some beef in the right frequency range. That low/hi eq is pretty amazing, too. Doesn't get muddy, just good harmonics.
January 7, 2026 at 5:09 AM
Have I not given the Elektron Heat its due? I had it in storage for the last year or so, aiming to sell it. Why is it making everything sound so good, right now?
Is this hardware-placebo?
