Hell with it, I'm just going to post the whole thing here via screencap and alt text. It's Kaleb Horton, man, his writing always deserves the second read, especially since it could have just easily been lost forever like so much else. Read it, share it.

@carynrose.bsky.social I went to a couple Beatlefests in Chicago in the late 80s and people were still booing Yoko during Let It Be. But! There were also people countering the boos and hisses with cheers. I was just a dopey kid and had no concept of feminism yet but I knew it was dumb to boo Yoko!

A movie that takes place where you’re from.

(Schrader’s parents were, according to family legend, neighbors of my great-grandmother…who went to see “Taxi Driver” on opening weekend because Paul was such a nice boy.)

Just finished reading Pattie Boyd’s autobiography. Interesting story but Jesus Christ she stayed with Eric Clapton waaaaaay too long. What a fucking asshole he was. Just the worst. George Harrison doesn’t come out unscathed either but he was never as bad as fucking Clapton.

2 box sets that expanded my musical horizons:

Rhino Records' Loud, Fast, and Out of Control, which made me take 50s rock as seriously as rock from later decades.

The Anthology of American Folk Music, which got my ears used to pre-rock-era recordings.

Very grateful for those collections.

I gotta say -- reading Emma Anderson's post here on Mani, combined with so many of the comments in response -- that I've rarely seen such a remarkable outpouring of honest, earnest affection and praise, on top of so many other posts these past couple of days. He truly was one of the good ones.

Absolutely gutted to hear about Mani's passing. I am not normally one to wheel out anecdotes at these times but I'll make an exception for Mani. In 1993, The Stone Roses, with whom I'd been...

It is magnificent!
If your working week has felt like a visit to the Mad Hatter’s tea party, you might enjoy Jonny Miller’s 1966 adaptation of ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ For me, this version captures the weirdness of Carroll’s vision better than any other, with a mind-blowing soundtrack by Ravi Shankar.
