The cost of academic hbk books with only a comparatively small readership is a problem for those of us well outside the academic loop.

However, copies can be obtained for reading through UK Public Library Inter Library loan &, as I mentioned regarding *FSIEME*, after a time, as E-VG second hand.

Yes, though in Mansell's case I'm pretty sure it is open access because she had an external funder who paid OUP a substantial fee for open access publishing. It's great when available but not an option for most academic authors!

Did you know … @wikipedia.org runs on MediaWiki, a software first written by Magnus Manske in 2002.

After many upgrades, MediaWiki today handles enormous amounts of information for billions of readers worldwide.

The Environment Agency says it began an investigation in February 2025, but, despite this, the site remains open - and images show a lorry spilling waste at the dump on Friday 6 February.
Just another organised waste crime site, this one in Essex news.sky.com/story/this-s.... Organised crime will have known for years that there is next to no enforcement against industrial scale illegal waste disposal and huge profits to be made. Now it’s just a matter of finding the next site.
This shocking illegal M25 waste site has kept on growing - despite an Environment Agency investigation
The "absolutely heartbreaking" landfill looks unrecognisable from what it once was. It could soon spill into the River Roding, London's third biggest river.

The idea of having to 'save' archaeology is fucking ridiculous, especially against a background of people constantly banging on about how British culture is being eroded or some bollocks. This is British culture and yet for some reason our very patriotic government doesn't give a shit.

Another one.

This is a really important find - unique in fact. It has slight similarities to a torc from Moulsford (in Reading Museum) but apart from that it's a totally new type. 🧵

PLEASE SHARE, thank you

Great article that gets at one of my ongoing frustrations with digital collections that have been important for my research for a long time — "users are restricted to browsing the collection or keyword search via a simplified web interface, rather than having direct access to the text +

Blue and Coal Tits squeeze into small spaces to keep their nests safe. A smaller hole keeps out larger birds, and they’ll happily move into a well-placed box 2-4m high.

In early spring, spot them inspecting nest boxes & weighing up their options before moving in!

Swifts spend almost their entire lives in the air, only touching down to nest. They need high-up, deep boxes with plenty of space to swoop straight in!

And once they’ve found a home, they’re loyal to it... meaning you could see them return year after year.

Sparrows are social, chatty birds that nest in loose colonies.

A single box is great, but if you have the room, why not create a 'Sparrow Street' - and host a thriving community!

This #NationalNestboxWeek, remember not all birds nest the same way!

Here's a few options to get you started...

Robins and Wrens like to keep hidden, tucking their nests away in dense cover.

An open-fronted box placed low down and out of sight is just their style.

Things MUST change, and fast.

Finds Liaison Officers with the Portable Antiquities Scheme face many challenges. Imagine my surprise when a metal detectorist phoned me at 11.30pm last Tuesday, on my personal mobile, after leaving a series of voice notes earlier that evening. In other news, I'm leaving the PAS on 31st March.

I note that the hoard has been recorded by the PAS (which it has), I don’t claim a full archaeological record has been made. I’m very troubled by this case (not least because I have a close relationship with Moyse’s Hall Museum); Prof. Licence’s reputation will surely be irreparably damaged

Thing is, without the finds themselves, they can never be - techniques change and develop, new research questions get asked.

But yes, as far as I can see, we don't have any composition data on the alloys & if die matching, the only way to truly see, is to have the coins in front of you...

You’d think full documentation would be an absolute minimum required form of data recovery if a collection of local, regional, and/or national significance were going on the auction block…
