it's like, a magnetic type system using their magical ore. he's still working out all the details with the actual science folk, but they're in the land plotting phases. He has to take land from people and that never goes well.

Loke will remember and it will take a lot to regain her trust. She seems easy to trust at first, but she's really not and keeps her most important cards close to her chest, but having to regain trust she'd actually given you would take a LOT of effort.

Loke doesn't really understand it but lets others tell her what she should be concerned about.

Kalua is very interested in technology and, with the advisor Ikal, work really hard to modernize the country. Kal is currently helping develop a train system

The god of knowledge has that honor. and... he's important in a subtle way but the prologue is his only actual appearance in book 1. Which is probably for the best because he's an a-hole. I guess when you know everything, you tend to be smug.

Technically Loke is on that spectrum. Likely more in the demi bucket. There isn't language for that for them, so she's mostly just dismissive of all of that.

Kalua is my Ace ace. But he doesn't come into play for a few books. And then never leaves me alone.

Betti! he was a persistent annoying antagonist in Novel 1 and by novel...6? he's one of my MCs. I'm glad to have largely written like 10 books before book 1 gets out because now i can flesh him out more for when he comes back better :D (the giant blond) (Image by @atomicmarshmallow.bsky.social)

Magnar usually took just about any job he could when he couldn’t tend the fields, as long as it wasn't obviously illegal and didn’t contradict his morals. However, if the price offered was enough, he sometimes could bypass some hang ups he might have with the client.

Winter's relationship with Blu and eventually with Loke are really important behind the scenes. Winter's a whimsical person that comes and goes when needed but her relevance and role isn't really explained until book 2. But she does help bring Blu to Loke

I didn't expect Kalua to be as stable as he is with how many traumatic things I've put him through. He does have some private breakdowns sometimes, but considering his circumstances, I totally should have broken him completely by now.

I’ve said this before, a lot, but when you’re an author and your book doesn’t sell your feelings can default to the premise, “Everyone in the world was offered my book and they all personally rejected it.” The truth is most people don’t know it exists. Awareness is the problem, not you or your book.

He only knew how to farm and dodge sharp objects flying at him. He was used to tools breaking and after the end of a hoe hit him square in the forehead once, he quickly learned how to dodge his father’s worn down tools.
