Been posting some songs I’ve made lately and figured I should start a thread where I can put links to all the projects I’ve finished and uploaded as playlists to YouTube
Listening to Worcester 2013 N1 and wishing I could relive my excitement seeing The Curtain With and Vultures for the first time, and in the same set!

Figured this little vacation is the perfect time to dive into a new game
Just got Civilization: Beyond Earth and DLC on sale for like $13. Still having lots of fun playing Civ 7 - and excited for the update tomorrow - but this’ll a nice option to change things up with winter coming

Wife and I are on vacation for the next week and after a conversation where we found that we’ve both seen surprisingly few Christmas movies, are gona put a few on

The thing is.. we also *know* surprisingly few Xmas movies

Absolutely criminal how the Prelude and Part 1 of the Weather Report Suite were dropped after the Dead came back. A travesty

Samson wants you to have a great day!

(and if you’re going through a tough time and not up to having a great day, Samson wishes you well on getting thru the day and wishing better days ahead ❤️)

Why can’t he just hurry the fuck up and choke on his lunch? Can we at least get some good news for the holidays?

People will say jazz is boring and then ignore the fact that some modern jazz is the most out-there, experimental, stand you on your head, spin you around, and ask you to step in rhythm shit you’ve ever heard, then follow it with a gorgeous ballad

Really enjoying some new this morning!

First 2 tracks are weird and aggressive in the best, jazziest ways possible

But now I’m wondering whether to buy this album on Bandcamp, or use that money to instead support a band I already know and like

So I might be buying a Dizgo or Squeaky Feet show off Bandcamp this afternoon or something
Ayyyy that’s it!

Looks like I can at least listen to the first two tracks for free, but afterward gotta decide if I enjoy them enough to buy the full album

Gotta credit my wife for this one; you can sing Phish’s version of Manteca over the b-section to Cissy Strut, and it’s not perfect but it works better than you’d think

Was out to dinner and heard some ridiculous Xmas song about “Text me merry Christmas” and I think “classics are classics for a reason; I don’t picture this one sticking around”

Get home and look it up and…. it’s 12 years old and still popping on the restaurant holiday playlist

It’s such a weird concept for me to think of the creative process solely as a means to an end, something necessary only in support of creating a product

I’m not gona pretend like the end result doesn’t matter at all; of course I do. I enjoy art. If I make art, it’s because I have an idea I think
So many of these arguments in favor of AI as if the only reason someone would ever create something is more monetary incentive are very telling

Like it’s impossible for some ppl to even fathom that the process of creating something is what drives some ppl and what they enjoy about art, not some ROI

Had a really nice time at the Trolley Museum last night checking out the different trolley and trains and taking a low-20-degrees ride on an open air trolley for the light display

Those houses that go all out with their Christmas lights are cool, but they need to start doing that in the summer when I’m riding my bike at night too

Also, CT or MA needs to legalize mushroom chocolate bars, for similar reasons

Anyone else boo louder at their TV when sport betting ads come on than when the opposing team scores?

Started up a new game of Civ 7 after the new update and so far I’m loving the Shattered Seas map type. Pacing of the early game is so much less stressful when you’re on your own little island and don’t have to worry about aggressive neighbors getting in the way while getting your first towns going

Ugggh fuck this whole getting dark at 4-something bullshit

Only like a week and a half til the days technically start getting longer again

This has me imaging an xkcd-like comic taking place 50yrs in the future and ppl going
“Can you really believe ppl in the 2020s were asking LLMs for recipes?”
“Well that explains the spike in battery-acid related deaths in 2026”
“But somehow not the 2020 medical advice to inject bleach?”
TBH: I think the problem is that we're learning that LLMs are a dead end. They already have sucked in everything we've ever created as a species and they're not getting better at actually understanding the words it is typing.

One cool thing about releasing music digitally is there aren’t any length constraints; you could release a single 100-minute song no problem

But I’m listening to Exodus by Bob Marley, and even without any pause, you can *feel* the record flip between the title track and Jamming. Perfect ASide/BSide

So I decided to listen to each list then move to the next

There’s a few things I don’t like about NPR’s change in format to the year’s 50 best albums list, but one that’s bugging me more than it probably should is a lack of album covers. They only include one from each list
those. So I guess, depending on how you want to count it, the list this year is somewhere between 12 and 120, which leads to the problem of do I listen to each of these dozen lists in sequence, or the #1 off each, followed by the #2 off each

I suppose it depends whether I want to get a feel for

In December 2020, among many year-ends listicles, I happened upon NPR’s 50 Best Albums of 2020 and thought it’d be fun to work my way through listening to every album on that list. And it was fun enough that I’ve done it each year since

Definitely an exercise in checking out a lot of stuff that

For all of the beautiful music-theory-nerdiness in the dotnet song history for Stash, I’m shocked that there is zero mention of when Fishman relented to the audience clapping and stopped doing his woodblock fills

Seriously, ctrl+f that page for woodblock, fill, or clap and there’s nothing

After working from home since the start of covid, got the email that they’re making me go back Mondays and Tuesdays starting mid next month

Boss sent an email today saying we “[do] not have a formal dress code… casual is now the acceptable attire across all of our offices… Employees may dress…
