I'm watching the @rifftrax.com of Beyond Christmas and I'm very confused as to what is going on. Why does everyone live in the same house? What weird afterlife does this movie postulate? Why is this movie so slowly paced?

Settling in to watch The War Between the Land and the Sea (Doctor Who spinoff) only to discover that Disney won't be airing it until 2026 sometime :/

This fascinates me on so many levels.

The first is that how will LLM bots recreate the parasocial relationship side of the gig (although the AI boyfriend subreddit makes me worry that people will fall for that)?

Then there's the whole influencer sherpa gig that has started at National Parks...

Not an obscure story at all. It has a wiki page. And it was from the future, not aliens. 1943? Wow! The core idea aged well!

So I once read a story where a father discovered some weird (turned out to be alien) educational toy that he gave to his children. He could never figure it out, but it taught their more flexible brains how to think in higher dimensions. It then turned out that Jabberwocky was written in code.

Midway through day 3 of the atmospheric river crisis and Seattle has been so rainshadowed that there weren't even particularly deep puddles on my walk this morning. Hoping that continues!

I was hoping that something like Apple News + would be the thing to make it work, passing along the money they made to the people who wrote it, but it's the same thing as Spotify. You can't fund an entire industry off of $10/month.
not sure how to square ‘no one person can be reasonably expected to pay for every media subscription’ with ‘sorely underpaid writers need to make a living’ but my inclination is not to locate that problem with any of the broke ass people on either end of the complaint

Why do I suspect that an AI major is not teaching students the linear algebra needed to train models...

This is just direct pay for a sheet of paper that will get you a job but that only works if employers think an Albright degree is a shorthand to show you have useful skills.
Yes we all agree that this is the reason colleges are in trouble

Skill. Issue.

Once, during a storm, an older gentleman knocked on my Cuban godmother’s door and after some pantomime because neither spoke much English, she determined he needed eggs. She gave him the last of what she had even though she was on a fixed income. 1/6

And I think a sub divide is that some people don’t get that content can have negative value.

If you wrote 4 great essays, people will think of you as a person with interesting ideas who should write more. If you wrote 4 great essays that are buried under piles of garbage, no one will find them.
I feel like the big divide between those who want to use AI writing/art/video and those who [1] don’t is between those who are looking for content as in a steady stream of material to keep eyeballs on you and those who post in order to express themselves, sometimes as a compulsion.

As a general rule, I don't take requests for these. The entire purpose of the Phish Stats Morning Coffee is to start out with just the canvas that is the setlist history for that day, run it through the random generator that my mind can be, and see where I end up. (1/5)

I’ve made it to the first 12/30 set break!

I’m tempted to stop listening now and be “Big Cypress was a festival where Corinna was busted out and Chief Jim Billie came out. Other music was played too. The end.”
Figure I should better write when the writing is flowing. Because now I'm here and rule one of this project is that I will not write about something before relistening to it (and adjacent shows), preferably multiple times, lest I miss something.

I’ll take a December atmospheric river event over an ice storm any year! At least it’s reasonably warm out.

The big one of course is if I asked people in their 50s, “What was the exact date of the OJ car chase?” gen-pop would be lucky to have a 1-2% success rate whereas Phish fans of that age would probably be at least 35-40%
John Lennon was killed 45 years ago today. That's one of those dates that I can always remember via Phish because Come Together was debuted on 12/8/95 in homage. But it's the Tweezer > Kung > Tweezer that really represented that. (1/3)

What in the world could be the possible ROI with this?

OK, we're going to get two old actors, put one them in their Doctor costume, make a credits sequence, shoot on some locations (blocking off streets), get out dalek props, do some minor f/x work, all to - what - sell maybe 2 more box sets?

One time my brother and I were playing football 2 on 1 against my dad. We tried a weird play and my father penalized us 15 yards for intense stupidity.

That Bears' trick play with the fake here and the fake there and then the flip deserved that fate.

What is going on with this anyway? How did they decide that Franklin was going to be their new symbol.
The Franklin publishers (Kids Can Press and Scholastic)need to sue, or maybe they’re kind of ok with this? Are they supporting their authors?

Enjoying this chant "Bears still suck!"

It's both aggressive and passive aggressive at the same time.
