In light of that story from the uk, reminder that the gay and trans panic defense (killing a trans person after discovering they’re trans) is still legal in most of the U.S.

It’s not a cute phrase, it’s literally a way people get away with murder.

This is the thing that drives me nuts about most modern hot tech. It’s not that the things are completely useless, but the applications are so much more narrower than the bubble approach of shoving it into everything, massive growth with no plan, and damn the consequences.

Affirming just means the therapist actually lets you explore your thoughts and doesn’t tell you immediately you’re wrong. They’re willing to actually consider the possibility you might be trans and walk with you and help you explore what that means and what YOUR thoughts actually are.

I feel like people really don’t understand what actual therapy looks like when you’re dealing with gender and that it’s probably a lot closer to what they think “gender exploratory therapy” is.

Look if even if it was possible to resolve trans identity with your gender assigned at birth (which it absolutely isn’t) it would only be doable with real therapy that was affirming of your own reality, not fucking conversion therapy nonsense

And music theory aural transcription has them all beat. The fact that people can listen to four part harmony for a short song two times max and transcribe all the individual parts note for note is just incredible. And that’s like undergrad level, phds in music are superhuman.

Anecdotally, learning advanced math for computer science I hadn’t been exposed to in high school, taking a law course, and my community college film grip and electric class all required equal amounts of rigorous study and practice.

Like AI is being shoved into everything. It’s impossible to do a google search without also querying their LLM or scroll an app without seeing an AI summary. -this is regardless of if it’s good or if someone wants to use it. Industry has decided this is how things will work - so much for free market

I feel like there’s some parallels with the spread of AI technology and like how public transit and car centric life took over America, or American fast food for that matter. It’s a profound reflection of how big infrastructure things end up dictating how we live our lives.
