idk if people know this but the "o-eko tex certified" thing you see on fabric all the time is a fake certification invented by industry actors for marketing. Says it's "environmentally friendly" by using less water than cotton, etc. It uses less water because it's made of plastic.

begging crying screaming throwing up wishing that this guy's face wasn't all over the promo material so people would go and see Greta Lee in her 9 inch nails action movie about freedom in love and life being the logical choice over dehumanization and fascism

Finding out that Jared Leto kept doing his method acting shit and insisted on staying in character on the set of Tron Ares and would only answer to the name of Ares is so funny, like making a big ass douche of yourself for the third Tron movie where you play “computer program that gains feelings”

buddy from Kirkland was telling me earlier today that a lot of families moved from seattle to the east side in the 60s and 70s because they were terrified of black people and desegregation & that this split can still be seen today

Now is not the time to reelect a mayor who refuses to take responsibility for the failures of his administration. We have lost shelter beds every year of the mayor’s term, and more people are sleeping outside as a result. We are a national outlier on unsheltered homelessness.

Seattle deserves real action, not embellishment. I am running to bring real solutions to our homelessness crisis — not fudge the numbers. #thisisyourcity

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell is seeking reelection partly based on the claim he’s responsible for adding 3,000 emergency housing units. A deeper look reveals that’s an embellishment.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.

Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

I like how the news will be like “while the President claiming Portland was ruled by a giant skeleton named Mr Nibbles is not strictly true, it does speak to the anxiety of many Americans”

I feel like a broken record, but I have to keep saying it over and over again: a farmer bailout won’t do much of anything because the market is gone. There will be no incentive to plant next year.

The bailout will help payoff farmer debt to the banks. That’s all.

George was just trying to get to work.

ICE pepper-sprayed him, dragged him from his car, locked him in a detention center, and placed him on suicide watch. He even missed his young daughter’s birthday in the process.

This man is a veteran and American citizen. Don't look away.

"They put me on suicide watch and they put me in the cell, I'm naked, in like a hospital dress and just a concrete bed with like a mattress, like a thin mattress and, they leave the light on 24/7."

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

There are some very simple things that could be happening to make street level and public areas in new constructions simply nice to be in that are completely avoided because cities are so terrified of homeless people moving in to anything remotely bearable

Just a few days ago, the UN warned that 24 million people in Sudan are suffering from acute hunger, 630,000 are on the verge of famine.

Yet not a single major outlet or activist has spoken up.

Ask yourself why.

Idk I feel like this is one of those things that gets effectively astroturfed to make developers easy money. I like urbanism & I like green space- we have different infrastructure and environmental needs than a lot of the european models people point to.
