Now I'm waxing far too nostalgic. Anyone else from Houston remember Power Tools?

Do they still list the father's occupation (only) on birth certificates? Mine lists my dad as a "Chemist" in "Oilwell Service." And my mom's signature is, "Mrs. (Dad's name)." Oof.

A fascinating Thing when learning about your ancestors are the noted causes of death. Two by plague in Amsterdam in 1630, so their son hightailed it to New Netherland.

I've been looking at the wrong astrology sign for years now. Thought I was Taurus rising but it's Aries. My life is a lie.

He is a tour de force in that. And it reflects the truth. It's bleak.
He made a film called The Apostle (1997) and by made, i mean he wrote, directed, and starred in it. Ostensibly, it was about the redemption of a violent abuser. The redemption had to do with building a church. It did not have anything to do with taking accountability for murder or violence.
Robert Duvall, actor who specialized in tightly wound men, has died
Duvall did not stand out for his movie star looks but for the intensity and depth he brought to the screen in such films as "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now."

While we're all talking about our favorite Robert Duvall movies, The Apostle is right up there for me.

Top bunk on a train is matchless for a good nights' sleep once you settle in.
Somewhere outside of Rochester. I’m up here in my bed suspended from the ceiling, and I’m surprisingly cozy. Always a little hard to fall asleep the first night on the train but I have downloaded so many YouTube videos to help me on my quest.

I was just drafting emails and scheduling them to send in the morning when I saw a reply notice from one of the staff that the office is closed tomorrow.

I think it was @salon.com and The Smoking Gun where I first read about Epstein.
OK. It was The Smoking Gun. They deserved for me to remember their name. I plead getting older.

I bring them up because what they published shows what was publicly know about Jeffrey Epstein and when, which is important to evaluate the character of the people dealing with him in the 2010s.

Trying to remember that small online journalistic outlet that used to publish primary documents, often leaked, that was one of the first to publish the police reports from the early 2000s Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

I'll never forget discussing Beavis and Butthead with my older brother while his five y/o daughter listened. I can't remember who said, "Beavis," but C popped out with, "Fire. Heh heh." My brother stared at me and told me not to tell his then-wife. I most certainly did not.

"Wendy made a cute TikTok!" Ffs. Sorry @drwendyrocks.bsky.social
Let me just make a few little adjustments to that title…

“How a scientist with a PhD in Geology and 25 years of experience is helping lead California’s earthquake work”

Way to devalue my experience.
Wendy Bohon has built a TikTok following as an earthquake geologist. She helps lead earthquake work for the California Geological Survey.

The English Scots and Irish with their long history of getting along as one people
1/3 What Musk is really referring to here is, of course “race” - that construct that served to define the hierarchies of wealth & power structured by modern colonialism. Like other far right racists though, he uses the word “culture” as a seemingly less pernicious synonym.

This isn't the first time that's happened and no, I don't believe you. Like the guy who was "accidentally" cremated. Nope.
A woman whose remains were found in a trash compactor in the basement of a public housing building in Brooklyn this month most likely died after slipping down a garbage chute and into the compactor, police officials said on Friday.

The medical examiner’s office is investigating the cause of death of Michelle Montgomery, 39, whose remains were found two weeks ago in a public housing building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

This is intentional.
Yet another way Trump is hurting our standing in the world, in addition to costing us billions in tourism dollars by shutting out visitors, is by crushing the power of the American passport and making it harder for his own citizens to travel. My latest: www.cntraveler.com/story/the-am...
The American Passport Is Losing Its Power
As the Trump Administration makes it more difficult for people to visit the US, other nations are starting to respond in kind.
