"LOUIS! My man! Great seeing you! Listen, I'm actually here to catch a flight back to Cali so let's touch base when the team is there in preseason and again when <checks notes, sees DC have 0 matches in Cali this year>...well let's get a Zoom call on the calendar for the summer! Keep grinding!"

I know @thedkinphl.bsky.social pulled this one line from a highly motivational LinkedIn post to dunk on The Doctor but I think Doc is right.

The easier option would be to do your not virtual job from the city it's in.

Grindset mentality challenges him to do it from 3000 miles away.

Winner.
"the trip wasn't necessary. But it mattered."

Love the dedication from The Doctor to jump on a cross country flight to be there when his new signing touches down in DC.

Someone at the club had to meet him at the airport to get him a winter coat. Social media pics kill two birds with one stone.

Club's working smarter not harder.

Grindset.

Some notes:

-Was the Doctor on the same flight as Munteanu or did they both time their arrival in DC really well while booking their flights?

-How long will the Doctor be visiting the US this time?

-Don't the airport arrival post if no supporters are there.

Discussed this at length on the podcast (and here) in real time.

Troy/Ally were in over their heads but the owners completely knifed them with their random decisions.

Again, not cheap.

They spend money!

Just dumb.

They waste millions in addition to leaving millions on the table.
Never forget this: Mackay told @stevengoff.bsky.social they were going 2+4 but the club went 3+3. Seems like there was a clear disconnect between the sporting staff and ownership because why else would he say this and then go opposite?

That move potentially set them back over $1M in GAM carryover.
January 16, 2026 at 7:18 PM
Knew he wouldn't be on the waiver wire long.

He wasn't perfect but he has real qualities that play well in the League.

I enjoyed watching him play the position.

As for training, the club Insta has some footage of who is there, including the 2010 born winger below. Also saw Gavin Turner in the background.

Be interested to find out what Academy kids are there.
January 12, 2026 at 9:12 PM
DC will get a cut off that transfer fee.

Yow is good but didn't get a move to another Euro club when his value was highest.

This stings but is way down the list of things DCU supporters should be aggrieved about.
🇺🇸 Sources: New England Revolution closing in on a deal to acquire USYNT winger Griffin Yow from Westerlo.

Fee just over $400k I'm told. Deal agreed but needs to be finalized.

Yow, 23, is a product of D.C. United's academy. Blossomed at Westerlo.

DCU has its workout of 2026 today.

Yay.
January 12, 2026 at 4:11 PM
That's lack of vision. Not cheapness.

They need someone to tell them exactly what to do and how to do it...then tell them how much to put on the check.

Look at their socials. Danita basically runs the club because she took the ball and ran and is good at it.

They need a sporting Danita
“Our owners are not cheap.”

Took them years to finish what little roof they put on the stadium. They are cheap AF.
January 10, 2026 at 8:06 PM
Never confuse dumb with cheap.

Our owners are not cheap.

Just dumb.

Anyway, I really don't care since it's not my money and clearing the salary slot is the big win in this.

But man are they dumb.
Ok yeah, our owners are terrible, but Mackay was also a really bad GM. Dude was really confident he could make the palyoffs with Benteke and bunch of these guys, huh...
Boris Enow's departure from D.C. United was a free transfer triggered by the club's failure to make the MLS playoffs, per source. Beitar Jerusalem announced his signing Dec. 24. DCU had paid $2 million+ for him 18 months ago.

Whew!

All the optics around that signing were bad and while optics aren't everything, DC really needs to heavily weight optics at this point in time.
Sources: Rumors suggesting DC United are close to a DP deal to sign Meriton Korenica from CRF Cluj is not true. He is not a target at the moment.
January 8, 2026 at 10:32 PM
Remember how Caden Clark ended up in DC?

Is Weiler's kink signing players he saw once while at work?

Maybe check out an Academy match, Rene?

Will scratch that itch and save you money on transfer fees.
Agreed, he should be evaluated on assists not finishing.

Was reading somewhere that Weiler attended a Cluj match to scout Munteanu (after the deal was already agreed, maybe? so just trying to familiarize with a key player before preseason) and spotted Korenica, which is how talks got started.
January 8, 2026 at 4:33 PM
I'll be disappointed if this is the 3rd DP. Unless you're bringing in Busi and Jordi Alba from Barca, you shouldn't be signing two DPs from the same team in the same window.

Gonna go ahead and say that Cluj are not Barca.
2025 Max TAM contract was $1,743,750. If his salary is the reported $800k and the fee is $4M, a 4.5 year contract to make him TAM seems at least doable. Other option would be to give him like a 1.5 year DP contract, and then re-sign as TAM when that first contract ends
January 8, 2026 at 4:27 PM
From the master of the USL...and the Romanian SuperLiga.

If true and Cluj are that strapped, hoping DC can get that reported transfer fee down a bit.
On latter, they already owe $ to another team in the league for unpaid fees on an inbound. If they don’t settle all debts by next Wed they get hit with bigger punishment (points deduction at least).

More than you want to know about the Romanian League I know, but if I had to so does everyone else
January 8, 2026 at 4:19 PM
This is where I look to @marcmachado.bsky.social.

Isn't Miami about to amortize a transfer fee over multiple years to get a player in as a TAM rather than DP?

If you can get Korenica in at ~800k, give him a 3yr + option year deal, can you get him as a TAM?
Yes, but this doesn't really seem to be "at a discount." I think he's probably a fine player, and reminds me a little of Saba Lobzhanidze, but this is one that you'd certainly rather it was a TAM signing.
January 8, 2026 at 4:17 PM
This is the correct assumption.

Except, everything else they've done this offseason has been competent.

Except, going to Romania to scout one player and ending up buying two players is lazy at best and incompetent at worst.

Also, this FO has ZERO track record to assess for patterns.

So. Weird.
I’m going to assume incompetence.

bsky.app/profile/seth...
I was imagining that they were bringing this guy in to make Munteanu feel more comfortable. But for $4 million??? That just feels shady.
January 8, 2026 at 3:18 PM
Except Munteanu has scored 25 goals the last two seasons (23 last year, 2 this year 😦) while Korenica only has 8 assists during that time. Even if all 8 were to Munteanu, that still ain't LuchaRoo incarnate and definitely not enough to warrant a $4mil pity transfer.

Weird.
Yeah, it does not pass the initial smell test for sure - makes me wonder about money laundering ... maybe it's just "I would love to play for you; can we get my assist buddy too" - we'll have to wait and see them play (assuming DCU make it onto TV this year outside of the league's $treaming service)
January 8, 2026 at 3:08 PM
Doyle's trepidation is valid.

But, DC doesn't need Korenica to score, they need him to create chances for Munteanu and Baribo.

Rumor is Cluj is in financial trouble so plucking players at a discount could be considered smart business.

But yeah, this is weird.
Spending $4m on a 29-year-old winger who’s scored double-digit goals in a league season *once*… eight years ago.
Days after signing Louis Munteanu to a club record transfer, DC United appear to be close to signing Munteanu’s teammate at Cluj (Meriton Korenica) for an additional $4 million www.fanatik.ro/korenica-mer...
January 8, 2026 at 3:00 PM
I mean...this is weird.

Good, bad, who knows.

It's just weird.
January 8, 2026 at 2:19 PM
He didn't do a Fletcher post that had "former All Met Player of the Year" in it!

@stevengoff.bsky.social has gone national, y'all.
FC Cincinnati acquiring MLS rights to Kristian Fletcher, the U.S. youth intl whose contract option was declined by D.C. United, per two sources. Cincy close to completing deal with 20-year-old forward, who’s recovering from ACL injury. DCU expected to receive $ from Cincy.
January 8, 2026 at 2:12 PM
There's real talent there but between the endless loans in a quest to get to Europe quickly sandwiched between a myriad of injuries and being with a club that is...not great...at developing young talent, Fletcher needed a fresh start with new eyes on him.

Wish him the best.
