I’m sorry I haven’t been around and I’m once again behind on message responses, the last two months have been really hard on me. Besides the cat losses and other events I also found out my dad has cancer and Chris got sent out of the country with like 12 hours warning so I’m, like, handling a lot.

We still don’t entirely know what happened with BB8, his test results were all over the place and didn’t make much sense. It may have been connected to his congenital neurological issues, but we’ll never know. It fucking sucks. I miss them so much. This year has been the actual worst.

I had to let Louie go yesterday. His intestinal cancer was advancing rapidly and there was nothing left to do to try to keep him comfortable. In a cruel twist of fate, we also lost BB8 yesterday as well. He became very ill two weeks ago and despite diagnostics and treatment, he continued to decline.

Try to find someone with a dog in the same general ballpark size-wise of what you may get in the future, some cats have wildly different reactions to big and small dogs and sometimes it’s not what you’d expect- we’ve had a few that were okay with giant dogs like Rein and terrified of little dogs.

work and have a big German shepherd / malamute mix that does our cat testing for us, it’s not fool proof but can give you a good idea of whether or not the cat would even be open to considering cohabitating with a dog.

It’s not a bad starting point, though, when possible! Obviously you’re not going to have a full picture right away, and some behaviors can be worked on, but some cats will straight up be like “Oh hell no.” and some won’t react at all. It’s a good gauge of what you’re working with.

Do you have any friends that have a dog that is well trained and cat friendly? You can always try inviting them over with their dog for a day visit and see how your cat feels about it. Works best with a dog that is going to totally ignore the cat for a starting point.
