Krasznahorkai -94-minute conversation with Colm Tóibín
lrb.co.uk
Krasznahorkai has said of his work: ‘You will never go wrong anticipating doom in my books, any more than you’ll go wrong in anticipating doom in ordinary life.’

In 2012, we recorded a 94-minute conversation with Colm Tóibín for our Bookshop podcast:

Perhaps it is true that we do not really exist until there is someone there to see us existing, we cannot properly speak until there is someone who can understand what we are saying in essence, we are not wholly alive until we are loved.

Ancestry brought them back to me. Those I didn't even know existed, and now I understand their lives, their histories.💜

Richard Robson was struck by an idea in 1989. Decades later, his story shows the importance of fundamental science.

I knew this was going to happen way back in the 80's. All the warnings were ignored. #ClimateChange

With your breath upon me
My love flames high with garnet sparks--
Like a furnace of molten steel,
Windblown.

Having felt the breath of God,
Are the stars
Mere smoldering slag
Fallen from an immortal crucible
Where souls are in the making?

The Juliet Rose is not only considered to be one of the rarest flowers in the world, but it's also the rarest rose in the world because it took 15 years for rose breeder David Austin to cultivate the flower in England. Additionally, it cost him a whopping $4.3 million to do so. By Ashley Sophia.
Rosa 'Juliet', also known as the Juliet rose or Sweet Juliet, is a popular English shrub rose developed by David Austin, known for its soft apricot-colored, tightly petaled blooms and mild tea-like fragrance. It is a vigorous, upright shrub that blooms repeatedly from late spring to fall and is excellent for cutting and floral arrangements. The rose thrives in full sun, well-drained soil, and is suitable for USDA Hardiness Zones 5a-9b.

Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonour’d and unsung.

~ Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832)
