Not that that game's format is needed everywhere, but I see it only as a net positive to implement something like it. MK / IJ towers are awesome. I don't play those games online much, but I'm happy to fire them up and run towers from time to time.

Was it as good as playing other people - no of course not. But was it a way to practice, build understanding, and just keep you playing? Yeah absolutely. And it wasn't a super complex mode. It was a map screen & a bunch of characters with the cosmetics slapped on and some unique behavior AI.

I keep thinking about VF4E's quest mode which did so much heavy lifting for that game it's unreal:
- it gave you a predictably escalating challenge in the arcade/ranks
- it had quests to give you incentive to learn/use mechanics
- it had cosmetics to earn to build personal investment
- it gave you a predictably escalating challenge in the arcade/ranks

there's definitely been times where that's the case. And to some degree it kind of happens still just because information can be scattered or poorly organized - like Tekken doesn't have a definitive centralized wiki that I'm familiar with. That's a problem but not like willful gatekeeping

I should say I haven’t tried for awhile - like 6 months, so maybe it got fixed.
Idk the only other way I know is MAME. I think the main branch supports it, but I haven’t messed with it in awhile so I may be wrong.
I just bit the bullet and bought the ps4 version.

Agree with your overall point though - emulation is generally pretty pain free to start, but how much you chase accuracy or a more ideal experience is going to drastically impact how much of a headache it all is.

at least compiling shaders is mostly hands off, just takes time & messes with the experience while it's happening. just getting a game up and running is relatively pain-free, though I'm not gonna pretend like it's ideal. weird performance, visual glitches, etc. are all pretty likely.

Bloodbowl is way more tactical - you’re moving your individual pieces and doing actions with them. Sort of like a final fantasy tactics but football. Rooted in war gaming.
