The association between robins and the Oak King is rooted in Celtic mythology and Pagan lore. The robin is the bird representation of the Oak King, who battles the Holly King (represented by a wren) for dominance at the turning of the year.

#ArtAdventCalendar Part of the attraction of learning to use acrylics is to move away from fiddly detail and go bigger and bolder. I like the contrasts on this one.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 6

An earlier painting, and one of my favorites, currently hanging on my wall.

Oil painting of old graveyard at sunset in autumn, on 18-inch by 24-inch canvas.

In Celtic folklore, the goddess Brigantia has the badger as her sacred animal totem. This connection highlights new life, wisdom, and the emergence of spring. The badger is an earth-dwelling creature that symbolises new life emerging from beneath the earth.

Circles to Circles 1, 2025

Circles are projected onto circles in stereographic projection. This drawing shows the projection scneario from different viewpoints. You could call it "Orthographic projection of stereographic projection"!

Day 3 of #ArtAdventCalendar and time for some Warhammer. I am particularly pleased with the helmet because it was a last minute swap and it was still primed black instead of white or pink so working up to that yellow was a challenge.

Day 4

Digital drawing? painting? -we need a verbing that encompasses both- of the beginnings of who I thought was gonna be a throwaway D&D character, who has instead kind of consumed my imaginal life for now. (She ended up splitting into two PCs, actually.)

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 4

Oil painting of a pond on 18"x24" canvas. A golden sky shines over mountains and a tranquil pond, with trees in brown, orange, and red.

Decided to paint this because I don't like yellow and wanted to try a painting with it.

Happy #Flyday! Today's #ArtAdventCalendar is my Tree Swallow drawing for Birdtober. Way back before I was a birdwatcher and I first learned they're a common bird where I live, I couldn't believe we had a bird with such beautiful color!

I’m somewhat nervous sharing this painting as I created it just after my mother passed away in July this year.

A ‘loose’ watercolour of a misty wood. As I watch on in the stillness I see a familiar figure drifting away to a peaceful place 🤍

Happy Friday everyone 🕊️

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 5

18”x24” oil painting of a graveyard in autumn among a hilly landscape. The sky has yellows, reds, oranges and purples of sunset. A pumpkin sits against a large, bare tree, with gravestones dotting the landscape and into the distance.

And for #ArtAdventCalendar day 2, some fishing lures 😅 Variations on this design have trended on social media for a while. I used creme polishes for the bases, some with gradients, and topped them all with a sheer holographic magnetic polish. Then I added details using more creme polishes.
