One way out of this might come wrapped in Reaganite branding. Somebody runs on "America Is Open for Business." They'll promise to end tariffs by fiat, reopen global trade, launch a ludicrously expensive marketing campaign to convince tourists they won't be kidnapped. 20% chance it's a Republican.

Helped out at a “chemistry day” for 5th graders. I did an experiment where we changed copper pennies to brass. Got a pile of thank you notes from the kids 😃 🧑‍🔬
