Sociologist in critical care at OHSU • typos/views my own • she/they/person with no chill for transphobes
As someone who has heard, felt, and also echoed this maxim, I greatly appreciated a more responsible but also less pessimistic version of "the institution will never love you back."

"Publishing health equity research will also require support from editorial boards. ... Although external priorities may be dynamic, journals must make and remain steadfast in their public commitments to health equity (272–276) and match these commitments with editorial decision making"

When i lived in IA, it was a purple state. In the last 20 years, IA took a hard right turn and its politics are indistinguishable from Alabama's, complete with abortion ban and regressive taxes. Now they have horrible brain drain and credulously wonder what caused it.

Iowa needs more doctors. Here's what physicians say must change.
New policy wins — including $150 million for residency expansion and new prior-authorization rules — are giving Iowa physicians hope, but health leaders warns real improvements will take years.

Controversial take, I guess: You can be considerate of others when in PJs. People in PJs is not what makes flying miserable, for me. There's the insufficient leg room, uncomfortable seats, delays...

If you are miserable on a plane because other people are in sweat pants... that's a you problem.

Devastating.
We are telling women:
You can have bodily autonomy only when you are sick enough you know you will die.

Maybe not even then.

(It’s not just OBs. Docs of all stripes treat pregnant patients or those for whom pregnancy is risky. Our research shows many are afraid to discuss abortion.)
While pregnant, Tierra Walker had a cascade of health complications that threatened her life.

Of more than 90 doctors who were involved in her care, not one offered her an abortion, according to medical records.
“Ticking Time Bomb”: A Pregnant Mother Kept Getting Sicker. She Died After She Couldn’t Get an Abortion in Texas.
Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.
