It's so incredible how low homicide rates are in Europe. The UK, with a population of 70 million people, had fewer than 600 murders in 2023.

Today my nephew, a HS freshman in the same school district where my sister and I grew up, experienced the same lockdown his mom and I experienced in April 1999.
He's safe.
National media stopped when we went through this 25 years ago. Today the kids his age who were shot won't even be the headline.
