While I would love for those who hurt me to acknowledge it or give me a rightful apology, it’s not guaranteed it will come. Or if I would actually be satisfied with it. I just don’t wanna hold onto anger anymore…But it’s fucked up to get hurt in the first place especially if you didn’t deserve it.

It dawned on me why you’re in charge of your own healing.
Those who hurt you may never acknowledge it or give you a rightful apology. You can’t wait for something that may or not happen to move on. You owe it to yourself to be happy and not let someone who hurt you in the past affect your future.

Sadly back in the day Black people weren’t allowed to use funeral homes. So Black people had to keep their loved one in their home until the funeral. Black people would essentially hold a visitation at their house until they were able to bury their loved one.

Usually most people bring food for the deceased’s family because they’re grieving. But that food is also there to help feed other family members that come and visit the grieving family. But the reason they come by prior to a funeral stems from racism.

🧵 Sitting around talking with my aunts and uncle about how it’s custom in the Black community to just drop by unannounced to the family of a recently deceased loved one. And they dropped some knowledge on me today.
