It's set in a "near-future 1996," so the hauntology aspect of fishmen attacking 90's Sea Lab isn't much of a stretch.

It’s difficult to fake. I write real places into the games and rename/repurpose existing structures, or I use real places as models with directions for alteration given to an artist.

The number of times people stole Aaron’s specs in the lastest playtest campaign gave me real joy. He was like the only guy in the trailer park that paid his phone bill. Line outside his door, forced to take messages from folks ranging from government operatives to cultists. Paid nothing for it.

Never fear the “shelf life” of an idea when writing near-future fiction. Tech bros haven’t had an original idea in 30 yrs and will never stop failing to bring the same tired paleo-futures into existence.

Just make tech the same, but bigger, worse, and stupider. Readers will think you’re a precog.

I’m writing Red Markets 2e. A big part of the setting’s near future tech is “Ubiq Specs.” I worried how something based on the laughable Google Glass would translate to the new edition, as it was so silly as to be almost completely forgotten.

Then Zuck reinvents the same failed prototype, but AI.
