When I was maybe 8, my parents dressed me as Freddy Krueger for Halloween. Stripy shirt, hat, hands, the works.

They used some kind of makeup to simulate the thick scar tissue, which I turned out to be allergic to.

Over the course of the night I scratched and peeled off the makeup

It takes a lot for me to get over my resistance to making a big scary step so when people in positions of power and responsibility continuously fail to do their job at a critical time it just further reduced my willingness to try. I was defeated by apathy.

if governments really cared about the mental health of their citizens they'd adequately fund the people who can do something about it. instead, they're putting job coaches in gp surgeries and mental health places. because they don't you healthy, they want you productive for a bit until you burn out.
