WHAT DOES HENSELPUSHERS DO?

A lot! In honor of Fanny Hensel's 220th birthday today, here is an overview of everything on offer.

I've grouped henselpushers' activities into four categories:

1) Free scores
2) Arrangements & special editions
3) Directories & resources
4) Events & Videos
Pictures at an Exhibition: The Hut on Chicken’s Legs -> Great Gate of Kiev
This begs the question: what's your classical music needle drop for When It Happens? No Hallelujah Chorus, that's too easy.

Mine is Brahms Symphony 1, movement 4.
You know, one needle drop for When It Happens is absolutely the big finale from the 1812 Overture, V for Vendetta style

IF SOMEONE SENDS ME A RECORDING OF THIS PIECE ON A REAL PIANO, I’LL RELEASE A FRISKING BABY GOATS SUPERCUT
A possible root for the term "capriccio" is "capra" ("goat"), which I think is perfect for this piece, since these little doodleedoos perfectly imitate the feeling in my heart when I see a baby goat frisking (jumping around like this)
a brown and white sheep is standing in a pile of wood chips .
Alt: a brown and white baby goat is jumping sideways in a pile of wood chips.

200 years ago today, on February 8, 1826, Fanny Hensel composed a strange little piano piece - a Capriccio in F-sharp major (H165).

It was the start of a micro-era of three weird little solo piano compositions she wrote in February 1826.

Remembering Grażyna Bacewicz on her birthday 🎂
📷 Andrzej Zborski

"Why is a creative voice as vivid and original as Bacewicz’s so conspicuously absent from our concert halls? It’s a trick question; we know the answer to that one."

In February 1826, Fanny Hensel went through a weird ass micro-compositional era that deserves to be studied and performed... but these pieces aren't even recorded!

I wrote about them on this 200th anniversary: www.patreon.com/posts/fannys...

Love the YouTube comments complaining about midi and helpfully explaining that I should “sponsor” a pianist to record everything. Bro with what?

We're struggling with this on our campus right now as well. I don't understand what is supposed to be an effective alt text for a page of musical score my students are analyzing. Have you seen anyone discuss this that I could reference? I imagine it's one of several issues involved for music depts.

Claire Huangci alert.

New piano album, released Jan. 30: all women composers, played with incredible finesse. An all-timer!

@henselpushers.bsky.social - you probably know about this already, but if not, prepare to be riveted.

I'm really excited about this new program I'm putting together. It'll feature works and correspondence by composers including Edvard Grieg, Agathe Backer-Grøndahl, Marie Jaëll, Franz Liszt, Germaine Tailleferre, Maurice Ravel, Felix Mendelssohn, and Delphine von Shauroth, among others.

Fanny Hensel quartet (for horns) 1/4 arranged. It’ll be performed in April by students of mine, and eventually recorded by them in May!
