TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”

Lots of opportunities this season to buy crap you don't need. I'm getting solar powered Christmas lights and an Elfquest blanket, for instance.

Remember to take a few of those bucks and put it where it will help your community or a worthy group in need.

Labor unions can recruit working class candidates in red states, run them as independents, fund them with money they now give to Democrats, and use union members as the core of their volunteer base. The numbers are more plausible than you think.

In self-interest but also general interest, folks: Black Friday is coming up, and small publishers/independent creators will always be a better choice than megacorps.

When the sales drop, please remember that!

That's how all his GOP friends land on bestseller lists, with "this is a suspicious entry reliant on bulk order sales" daggers next to the titles. (†)

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

Both the federal and my state government went without a budget for a prolonged amount of time, passed budgets way too late, and then neglected to include vital services in each (health care in federal and transit in PA).

I think they might be bad at their jobs.

I'm going to actively say at this point that I don't think people should donate to any Dem-run PACs. What guarantee do we have that they won't give the money to cowards to stave off primary challengers?

I mean, it rather feels like the reverse will happen.
