There's an absolutely mind boggling amount of scandals involving US government officials right now, and the only thing plastered across CNN's front page for days has been a TV host's missing mother. I'm sorry, I just do not care about this whatsoever. This is the state of newsmedia in the US.

On his update call last night, @abdulelsayed.bsky.social said something that hit me square in the chest. He said, "My job is not to make what is popular right. My job is to make what is right popular." That's what an actual leader does.

This is correct.
This. This. This. This.
Laying off 1/3 of the post isn't just budget cuts. That's an intentional and willful dismantling of one of the top journalism institutions in the US.

Democracy dies at an empty desk.

NYT is wrong. Bezos buying WaPo was never a for-profit venture. Buying news outlets and allowing/forcing them to fail is not an accident, it's a militant strategy by the ultra-wealthy to deny their opposition (all of us) reliable information in an ongoing class war. The price is worth it for them.
Very sad to see yet another news outlet eradicate jobs for journalists. Reliable information about the world and what’s happening in it, from local to global scale, is harder to get with fewer and fewer skilled people whose mission is to provide it. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/04/b...

Take Matt's expert advice, especially if you are an activist or journalist of any kind.
If you’re worried about your devices: a few basic thoughts.

1. Pick good passcodes. I recommend a 10-digit numeric *random* passcode on your phone. This seems hard to remember, but with a couple of days’ practice it will be effortless.

They’re a death squad, Chuck, and you want them to wear name tags. Get the fuck out of here.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

You might ask me, “ok, so what do Democrats do now to make sure high turnout voters don’t become low turnout voters?” I didn’t decide not to go to bat for Dems next time on a lark. It took years of compounded messaging and blame for me to get here. It’s not an easy, overnight fix.
February 4, 2026 at 11:28 AM
Immediately after the Democrats lost in 2024, the DNC didn’t listen to their voters…they blamed trans people and leftist organizers, then held a retreat where their paid consultants rubbed their backs and told them to stay the course. This pull quote is a lie Dems tell themselves now to feel better.
February 4, 2026 at 11:25 AM
Dem leadership openly throws their base voters in the path on an oncoming train, and has the nerve to wonder why we quit bothering to show up.
Whats the matter, DNC? Did all those Cheney voters not come out for you?
Fuck off.

The credibility of DHS is damaged beyond the point of repair. It can't be fixed now or ever.
🚨 Documents leaked to me reveal a federal watchlist of American protesters suspected of being Antifa - including its supposed leader.

One Department of Homeland Security document says a 29-year-old resident of Portland "is the leader of Antifa":

Feds Identify “Leader of Antifa”
The list they're creating says so, anyway

Why should we care whether or not rich Americans make another 3 trillion dollars? This means nothing to the vast majority of the workforce.
Dr Oz: "If we could get the average American to start working a year earlier, right out of high school, or a year later -- not retire -- or work better during their lifetime because they're healthy, it would generate about $3 trillion to the US economy. That would more than remove the debt."

👇🎯 Not once has the national media asked a GOP politician about affording ICE the way Biden/the Dems were asked about the cost of
student loan debt relief & literally everything else for the last 50 years.
Folks are dying from winter storms and the power has been out for a week but the government can spend big money on detention camps. bsky.app/profile/cost...
How many times in your life have you heard a member of Congress or someone on TV say “we can’t afford it” when talking about something small but very important? It’s been happening my entire life. We can’t afford it? They’re putting seven times the annual budget of the EPA into immigrant detention.

That’s cool and all, but you’re helping her make money to wage her “ironic and inexplicable” crusade against us, so thanks for the lip service, I guess?

It’s wild watching the world discover supporting evidence for something you have understood for 8 years. The demons from the internet escaped their wiry confinement and took over world governance with the help of their rich monster benefactors who were already on the other side.

The will to fight at the state level is wonderful. I’m glad to see that there are some people who are willing and able to fight in courts, but what is needed is a comprehensive, national plan to hold people accountable if and when power shifts hands. I flat out don’t see this energy from natl Dems.

This is great and all, but you have to arrest them first. So what’s the plan for arresting them when they work for a lawless federal government who will actively shield them and move defendants out of the state? Jonathan Ross is still, unbelievably, A FREE MAN.
"If we have to hunt you down, the way they hunted down Nazis for decades, we will find your identities. We will find you. We will achieve justice. And we will do so under the Constitution and laws of the United States."

This is the kind of study you get when social stigma takes priority over humane science. The outcomes of this won’t convince a bigot, because they’ve already decided that the existing science doesn’t matter to them.

The most obnoxious part of this is that the whole idea that a cyber attack was used in Caracas is based on giving credit to an untrustworthy man’s words.
Once again, another analysis of the supposed "cyberattack" on the Venezuelan power grid that completely omits the fact that we bombed two substations. I think I'm going to be forced to write the definitive piece on what very much is likely not a cyberattack.
Not every cyber disruption is #cyberwar. Our latest Hooked! explains how cyber war, operations, and law enforcement get conflated, and why it matters. So how should we standardize terms? bindinghook.com/hooked-11-sp...
