To be clear, passing this law means access to reproductive healthcare is now at risk. Strip away all the rhetoric and they used the NWC to withhold access to health care for these Reminder that abortion care and birth control access are both reproductive healthcare care.

Yet another Alberta Supervised Consumption Site is being shuttered, this one at the Royal Alex.

I hope someone shows this to #ABGovt. If they really care about evidence-based care, this is clear.
Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.

We have 49 deaths due to COVID in Alberta so far this season. Not this year; this season (so since last month). Not across Canada; in Alberta alone.

Why do I have a bad feeling that this is on the wish list for the UCP and the Notwithstanding Clause Blitz?
The UK is considering a policy that would effectively segregate trans people from society. It would bar trans people from "single sex spaces" even when they use the facility of their sex assigned at birth.

This is a full on policy of segregation without even the benefit of separate facilities.

Suddenly the dragging of their feet to find a permanent CMOH makes sense.
If the UCP is confident on the medical merits of its transgender bill, then we should hear from the CMOH on this ASAP to validate the urgency of using the notwithstanding clause, it's why you have a top doctor after all.

The Alberta Medical Association and disability advocacy groups are condemning this Bill because they see the writing on the wall. Their rights will be stripped too.
“The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) strongly condemns the Alberta government’s introduction of legislation invoking the notwithstanding clause to shield three laws that directly threaten the rights of trans and gender-diverse people in the province.”

As Hoffman says, having a permanent CMOH would go a long way towards making vaccination campaigns effective. Still no one after a year?

Not to mention that a large part of the reason people are travelling “province to province” into Alberta is the “Alberta’s Calling” campaign her govt created.
The Premier fails to mention a long history of low vaccination rates in key communities in Alberta intead mentions of people traveling to Alberta as though the risk came from elsewhere and not inside her own house (and base) 🤦🏻‍♀️ www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Hey so “underage girls” are…children. The word you’re looking for is children. They’re not like, women-in-waiting or women-lite or whatever. They’re children. I think some of you are very uncomfortable with what that means for you but it is still true.

I know these things take time to do properly but I hope the people forming these recall petitions get the lead out. We’ve already seen the UCP change the law, putting a finger on the scale when it suits them. They WILL do it again.
@djclimenhaga.bsky.social: Trying to challenge the UCP government’s misuse of the Charter’s notorious notwithstanding clause may be a waste of time and money, but using the UCP’s ridiculous recall legislation as a strategy against the perpetrators is clearly rattling Premier Smith. #abpoli
