“Many of the large grants, including those to the Foundation for Excellence in Higher Education, the University of Texas and the University of North Carolina, were noncompetitive, meaning the recipients were selected to apply, according to two people familiar with the applications.”

Okay, yes, this is me. But no tips here about how to shut down the perseverating demon with silence.

Okay sobbing at the Swiftie video
In 2023 I became obsessed with videos of dads in cargo shortswaiting in parking lots during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. So when she came to town, I grabbed a camera and headed down to talk to them. I thought it'd be funny. It turned out to be something else entirely.

I heard organizers estimate the participants in Torrance at 7500 with lots more people still arriving. Not bad for a city that had a major fight to get Pride Month recognized the past couple of years.

Why I stopped listening and pledging back in 2016. This is who they've been for a long, long time, despite the good work of individual journalists.
NPR casting Trump as a normal president and normal Republican about to start a normal second term for a Republican president is a bad sign.

All those previous Republicans were reelected right after their first term, and hadn’t conspired to overthrow the Constitution.

The past isn’t precedent here.

The lessons of history about second-term presidents and second-term Republicans in particular are not just the stuff of textbooks. They can offer guidance and perhaps even temper expectations.

Opinion | Democrats would get nothing for throwing trans Americans under the bus
In the hunt for a scapegoat, some are arguing that there's been too much focus from Democrats on transgender rights. There's no evidence backing that up.
