As Hockeymomof2, I'm a mom of 3 & a Hurricanes fan (est '06) whose 2 sons played hockey as kids. Now I go to Canes games with them. Carrboro, NC is home. One of the last 6 old timers who still gets NHL Network. she/her
I'm dying! lolol
So many interruptions tonight. #CarolinaCulture

Preds? Well done.

may be hard to read this great chart from @hockeyviz.com , but the top line (Aho/Svech/Jarvis) didn't play after it went to 5-1; Slavin's night ended even earlier.
Next stop, Prudential Center.

The Letter II. Chris Drury announces the Rangers are throwing in the towel on the season. But, he stresses, "This will not be a rebuild. This will be a retool..." A source said je met with the leadership group individually and with the team before sending this letter out.

has anyone else noticed that the paywall at The Athletic seems to be down?

anywho, great look at Bussi's game:
How Brandon Bussi went from undrafted goalie to record-breaking 27-year-old phenom
Bussi became the fastest goalie in NHL history to 10 wins by doing it in only 11 games this season.

Two quotes:
"The project will reduce the number of aisles in the lower bowl, allowing for more seats. The size of the seats (19") will not change. A smaller number of seats will be added to certain parts of the 300 level....
"Hockey capacity is expected to grow by 694 seats to approximately 19,606"
January 15, 2026 at 5:57 PM
Interesting. The added bunker suites and the party deck on the 3rd level also take away standard seating, but add to the off-ice and standing room capacity.
The 21,000 figure is for whole-arena events (eg, floor seating). Hockey configuration is adding ~700 seats.
January 15, 2026 at 5:15 PM
So, with over a 10% increase in seating capacity, surely they won't need to increase ticket prices too, right? 🤔
Interesting. Not sure where all the seats are going to go or if means people have to move seats which I would not like as I know everyone that seats around me. . #carolinaculture

Superb long form story on how Brandon Bussi happened, from Jesse Granger (@jessegranger.bsky.social) at the Athletic (Paywalled - sorry) www.nytimes.com/athletic/696...

The Hurricanes last game before the Olympic break is at MSG in 3 weeks.

Have no idea how that will go - will it be 36 skaters, hardly trying, all experiencing 'NHL Senioritis' with exactly zero on the scale of "give a f*ck" ?

The free game of the night on HockeyViz tonight is Senators at Rangers. Presumably the Rangers will show up shortly.

Here I thought Mike Sullivan was infallible.

It's possible both Tkachuk and Marchand will be back from injury for Friday's game at Lenovo. (Tkachuk's first since June).
Meanwhile they're headed to the White House tomorrow for the Stanley Cup victory lap with the President who they greatly admire.

Matthew Tkachuk and Brad Marchand were both at Panthers practice Wednesday. Their on-ice participation signals a promising, imminent return to game action for the star forwards.

TOI had some weird totals.
Usually Staal&Marty usually carry them when they're off. But 77 with more than 11?
Blake mighta been fighting the bug that is going around (his decision making was not great either)

Clarification on #CarolinaCulture defenseman Jaccob Slavin’s status: Doctors recommended Slavin manage workload and avoid games on back-to-back nights, so as part of that injury rehabilitation protocol he sat out tonight.

switched to 99.9 stream for Mike and Walt this period, and wow, this game is actually worth watching. Walt is doing great!

The Blues all are playing like they're auditioning for GMET to get them outta there and over to Raleigh for a playoff run.

this is the final game of the scheduling gauntlet laid out for them 16 days ago. Definitely could see a let down coming considering...
:gestures hands manically:
'everything'.
because the calendar jumps months (years!), it's not obvious, but the Canes will play 5 in 7 (only in an Olympic year) starting tomorrow. And 10 in 16, if you look to their first 2-day break mid-January. At least they're mostly at home, but without Jarvis, and Slavin 'tbd', it's a gauntlet.
