Let's do a little experiment. Bergum and all the plants he wants are put in an 8'x8'x8' sealed glass box along with a match and some clean coal which Bergum can burn for warmth or to roast marshmallows.

What do we predict the outcome will be? Will the plants thrive? Will Bergum survive?
Burgum: "CO2 was never a pollutant. When we breathe, we emit CO2. Plants need CO2 to survive and grow. They thrive with more CO2. So the whole endangerment thing opens up an opportunity for the revival of clean, beautiful, American coal."

Who remembers Trump campaigning on "We will slow job growth but if you squint your eyes you'll see we are actually still treading water"?
Peter Navarro: "The jobs report comes out tomorrow. We have to revise our expectations down significantly for what a monthly job number should look like ... Wall Street has to adjust for the fact that we're deporting millions of illegals out of the job market."

I don't always agree with Jason Kenney but yeah, react to Trumps actions, not his words during his childish tantrums.
Jason Kenney had a pretty good statement on Xitter:

The most important thing here for Canadians is to not react. Trump wants to make us panic, make us worry, make us think he has all the cards. Trump doesn't actually hold a lot of cards and the ones he has aren't great. (1/2)
Trump, in the middle of his latest unhinged Truth Social screed, claims that if Canada makes a trade deal with China, "the first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup."

If only there was a technology intelligent enough to automate some of their work. I guess such a technology doesn't exist yet.
Thanks but no thanks. I prefer the advice of my undergraduate mentor who told me that real intellectual effort beyond a few hours a day resulted in rapidly diminished returns. Work smarter, not longer.

Everyone wants to blame billionaires for destroying the media (and pretty much everything for that matter) and there is some truth to that, but at the same time most people seem to have made the decision that getting junk content for free/cheap is better than paying for good content.

In their last 6 games the Senators have held Carolina, Vegas, Colorado, New Jersey, Pittsburgh and Carolina to 19, 20, 18, 27, 16, and 18 shots on goal.

Holding Carolina to 37 shots over two games is pretty impressive. Reimer giving up 8 goals on those 37 shots is not.
In their last 3 games the Senators have held Carolina, Vegas and Colorado to 19, 20 and 18 shots on goal.

To put that in perspective, Colorado tops the league with 34.9 shots per game, Carolina is second at 32.1 and Vegas 8th at 29.0.

Canadians need to realize that while Trump has the power to do great economic harm to Canada, it will be extremely difficult to wield that power without doing economic harm to Americans. There is a reason CUSMA compliant products are excluded from tariffs. Tariffing them would hurt Americans.

Carney got elected based on Trump's anti-Canadian rhetoric and his plan to push back. Everything he talked about in his Davos speech he talked about in his campaign. There was nothing new, he just repackaged it in a single eloquent speech with a call to action for other middle powers to follow suit.
Bessent: "I'd encourage Carney to do what he thinks is best for Canadians, not his own virtue signaling. We do have a USMCA negotiation coming up. He rose to power on an anti-American, anti-Trump message. That's not a great place to be when you're negotiating w/ an economy multiples larger than you"

Good to see people criticizing Carney using data from before Carney was PM while neglecting the fact that Carney has identified a major wind energy project to be fast tracked which could in time produce 60 gigawatts of wind power with first phase increasing Canada's wind power generation by >25%.
MIA from the graphic below, is Canada.
The next time PM Carney speaks of facing reality, I hope our PM can find his way to include climate change, green energy (that doesn’t incl duplicitous term decarbonated, or inferring nat gas is clean energy), as part of the economic, trade solutions we seek

It sounds like Donald is feeling the pressure, but he clearly didn't get the message from Davos. Carney, and the world, are done with his nonsense. They have decided he is an unreliable trade partner and are moving on. Trump is just digging a deeper hole for the U.S.
Trump: “If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken … If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products”

The mistake here is the hotels thinking Canadians aren't visiting because it is too expensive. This isn't the case. It is about national pride and self respect. In many cases changes in travel and purchasing habits is costing Canadians more so it certainty isn't about money.

Canadian land travel to the U.S. fell more than 30% in 2025 | CBC News
Statistics Canada says its national data is in, and it shows a stark change in Canadian travel behaviour with the U.S. in 2025. But that might not be fully reflected at Windsor-Detroit land crossings.

Every time Trump says anything he just adds another giant exclamation mark to Carney's speech.
Trump: “Dear Prime Minister Carney:

Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Canadians need to remember this when it comes to re-negotiating CUSMA. Trump will threaten to kill the deal if he doesn't get his way but it is bluster. Call his bluff, stand firm, and he'll be forced to back down because he knows American businesses/economy would be greatly negatively impacted.
If Europe found a way for him to save face and move on, great. But Carney's speech was still spoken and was still true. The bell has rung.

It's TACO Wednesday apparently.
Trump: "Based upon a very productive meeting I had with Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one... Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs"

I think Canadians emotionally want a speech that lashes out at Trump. This may be satisfying but ineffective. Instead, Carney's speech was to call out European allies still trying to appease Trump and rally them to instead build a coalition of middle powers with the heft to act as a counter balance.
People outside Canada: Wow, look at the resolve in Carney's speech!

People in Canada: Wow, another meaningless speech right before he gives even more concessions to Trump.

In a speech to the World Economic Forum, Mark Carney says middle powers such as Canada must accept that the rules-based international order is effectively dead, and great power rivalry with is here to stay. Key excerpt:

This Carney speech was very good. He both called out the Americans for 'rupturing' the existing rules based system and challenged Europe to stand up for their future under the new reality and not just be nostalgic for the past.
Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, a stable financial system... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "
