My religion is “a joyous and trusting fatalism.” But I am currently nonpracticing.
The heart of the law is still beating in the lower courts.
One of the things trial judges have done extremely well is force government attorneys to admit in public, on the record, that they are defying the will of the People.
JUST IN: Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Snell just confirmed, at the prodding of U.S. Magistrate Judge Keri Holleb Hotaling, that this motion for dismissal followed a "no bill" from a grand jury.

That means the grand jury refused to indict.

Repeal the ASPA.
This 37 minute episode of the Daily is the most harrowing, infuriating piece of reporting I’ve heard in a long time. Everyone needs to listen to it. A sane country would be debating only the length of the prison terms of the people who did this to these men. We just moved to the next scandal.
Trump Sent Them to a Notorious Prison. Torture Followed.

Excellent.

Happening now: Texas leaders announcing a rollout of a statewide program to put TPUSA chapters in high schools and colleges across the state. Gov. Abbott adds that schools that stand in the way should be reported to the Texas Education Agency.

I mean, the actual text of the amendment—which plainly encompasses more than just “freed people”—is also at least *some* evidence lol.

Is originalist clownsmanship our law?
This isn’t a difference of opinion. Ilan Wurman and Randy Barnett are straightforward liars.

It takes a culture to beat a culture.
there's a kind of crass materialism familiar from marxists--and some technocratic libs--according to which politics is mechanically determined by economic forces. what's valuable about @wdavidmarx.bsky.social's work is how, as a culture critic, he shows us that culture has its own forces and logics
Neon Liberalism #55: Has culture stagnated in the 21st century? Do the last twenty-five years feel like a blur? And is Donald Trump the greatest kitsch artist of our time? Join Samantha Hancox-Li and guest W. David Marx, author of the just-released "Blank Space," as they talk all of this and more.

“While subject to the jurisdiction of United States in many respects, children born to undocumented noncitizens are not subject to that jurisdiction in any respect relevant to the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”
idiots on twitter are arguing that somehow undocumented immigrants are not "subject to the jurisdiction" of the united states but it's gonna be even funnier when the supreme court says it

“The real story [about money in politics] isn’t about the ads you see but the power you don’t.”
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

It is no longer tenable to treat the problem as if it were about abstract structures or details of institutional design.

We’re gonna need precogs to deal with this.
To be crystal clear about this: The plaintiffs challenged the Texas law six days *before* it was signed by the Governor and became law. That was *too late*.
We need to talk about the massive loophole that the Supreme Court just carved into election law over the shadow docket—giving states a free pass to enact patently unconstitutional voting rules within nearly *one year* of an election. A stunning new limit on judicial review. slate.com/news-and-pol...

The reactionary template.
IRW — a Pulitzer-winning nonprofit newsroom at American — and @thebarbedwire.com traced the history of anti-trans legislation. Houston conservatives realized homophobia didn’t fly anymore, weaponized girls’ safety, and parroted segregationist language. It worked.

Cf. “nice Nazis.”
so another thing that Serpico captures really well is that people with the kind of integrity and stubbornness needed to be dissidents or idealists in corrupt institutions are often kind of hard to get along with.

Making it all the more critical that we patronize the Nazi bar and reach out to its regulars with unfailing respect and humility. Though not to an extent that could be thought condescending. Condescension toward denizens of the Nazi bar is a grave insult.
it should probably be a bigger story that the richest man on earth and leading Republican is a fucking Nazi

media needs to stop beating around the bush. this is Nazi shit.

“… Do not taunt Djungelskog elephant.…”
I'm not usually all that sympathetic to business complaints about burdensome regulation, but FT makes a good case:

"The Djungelskog elephant has two labels sticking out of it. The smaller tag is dedicated to product information...The longer label lists the composition in 22 languages..."
