We're looking for a postdoc to join the lab to work on cell-to-cell communication via the apoplast. Candidate must be brave, as they will have to lead us (me) away from the plasmodesmata-lands we've inhabited for so long!

The trichothecene mycotoxin deoxynivalenol facilitates cellโtoโcell invasion during wheatโtissue colonization by Fusarium graminearum
The trichothecene mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON) dampens host immune responses and facilitates cell-to-cell invasion through plasmodesmatal pit fields in wheat floral tissues.

The plough has been a good scapegoat for wider systemic neglect of soils. I had some thoughts after learning the hard way about jumping too fast into removal of ploughing as a tool. nathannelson.co.uk/2022/10/soil...

โKillerโ fungal gene could provide key to wheat disease control | Rothamsted Research
A specific gene appears to protect some fungal threats as they invade wheat. Disarming these defences could offer a pathway to keeping pathogens in check

New preprint! I always wondered: How much diversity do pathogens have within a single field? This important to assess the risk of resistance breakdown or spread of fungicide resistance . Together with colleagues from BASF we looked into this.
