The online video landscape just changed. OpenAI, YouTube, Google, and Meta have all released free, high-quality generative video tools aimed at social media. This means our feeds are about to be flooded with AI content. What now? What about creativity?

I have three solo exercises you can do to help figure out your POV that can lead to a better content strategy today.

Storytelling is much better when it has a clear POV. And a consistent POV for your channel, or brand, can help you with a content strategy or instructional plan. It makes you more human, relatable, and trustworthy no matter if your content is educational or entertainment.

And that YOU will be fine with it too (it'll sound normal to you soon enough.)

A super common question is to use FX or AI to change your voice because you "don't like it" at this stage. Seriously: don't do this. It'll be a worse experience for your audience. Trust that your audience will be fine with your voice, they prefer it to something that is not you.

Your voice will sound weird in your own ears when you start editing yourself for the first time. Everyone goes through this. Your audience doesn't hear any of that though. They hear a voice they haven't heard before sharing something useful or interesting.

I couldn't bring myself to say best for that site 🤣

As a demographic we might have a leg up on understanding, and probably are taking this with the seriousness deserved.

As we face ongoing risk of death from a society that still largely DGAF about us living or call us mentally ill despite so many receipts. That too, during *this*.

After losing our work and/or life passions, too, and told to "just stay at home then." And forego health needs, jobs, etc.

And we are told this by all sides of politics, all walks of life. Even within the disability community, at times, or the all too common *crickets*.
humaninternettheory.com
A group who might have a good understanding is those of us taking the ongoing pandemic seriously due to disability or other very valid health concerns. Because we are mocked, ridiculed, ostracized and harassed by our friends, family, and health care workers regularly for six years now risking death.

Image because I can't quote/share.

I don't think most people understand what we're facing. Not really.

Why are we publishing thousands of pieces of educational content that no human even listens to, let along oversees? Is this the future we want for the internet?

You can be professional without being corporate. Bring your actual vocab, reactions, honest confusion when something doesn't make sense. Write your own stuff, which is more engaging than polish (which is what gen ai will do - focus on collab instead of replace with the tools). Be... human.

The way you act when you are walking your dog is different from how you act when talking to the bank. Neither is fake. We all adapt our authentic selves for different contexts. Creating an on-camera persona is about putting your real personality into a new situation.

To create your authentic on-camera persona, select parts of your real self to emphasize. For example, a quality engineer might emphasize their logical problem-solving skills, while a health coach might choose to lead with warmth and understanding to best serve their clients.

Sharing your process (mistakes included) builds more connection than only showing finished work. People want to see the human behind the content, not just the highlight reel (uh hello INSTAGRAM.)

An AI-generated character named Tilly Norwood has been the subject of a push for agent representation in Hollywood. This move, which was widely condemned by actors unions, might be a look at one way generative video will be commercialized. But it isn't acting, and it isn't an actor.

A famous acting teacher (Meisner) defined acting as "behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances." I like that. Good acting is expressing yourself honestly within a defined context, which is exactly what you do when you speak to your audience on camera. You're not faking it! Context is key
