It's such an odd ending. I remember when it first came out there were way more conversations around the other characters and subplots but it felt like we all just actively ignored the last episode. It feels almost like "network mandatory bury your gays."

(Um, actually) Star Wars later clarifies in Rebels that the clone soldiers were phased out of the Empire in favor of recruits, so most if not all Stormtroopers were every day people who signed up to be evil. But otherwise, your point still stands.
