Never forget: At breakneck speed we are leaving the stable Holocene climate in which human society developed and thrived. Weather extremes are outside historical experience. Sea-level rise is accelerating. Dangerous tipping points are ahead.

Read about the installation of new #faPAR sensors in #Hylteomssa and other ICOS ecosystem stations:
Recent installations from the @horizoneu.bsky.social project #NUBICOS are helping enhance use of ICOS data for the remote sensing community.

Additional sensors for measuring #fAPAR were installed at several ICOS Ecosystem forest sites across Europe🌲

The Global Carbon Budget 2025 report is out today, which warns that the remaining carbon budget to limit global warming to 1.5°C is “virtually exhausted.”

Thank you to the ICOS community for their work in this global voluntary effort.

📢Global Carbon Budget 2025📢

Fossil CO2 emissions continue to rise in 2025 while the terrestrial carbon sink recovers to pre-El Niño strength.

The key findings are covered in two reports this year:

Shifts in Microbial Thermal Traits Mitigate Heat‐Induced Carbon Losses in Soils
The impact of global warming on soil carbon stocks remains uncertain. While warming initially accelerates microbial decomposition of organic matter and CO2 release, long-term field studies consistent...

We reached the end of the pole, the sun lit part of the crown is out of reach for our clipper. So we needed to deploy an alternative method to retrieve branches for the @icos-ri.eu nutrient and leaf area/mass analysis.
If someone has a drone for branch sampling, we are happy to test it next year.
