Two months now of this nightmare in Illinois, two months of abductions and chemical weapons and crying children and terror and despair.

Never forget or forgive. Come hell or high water, we *will* put Bovino and Miller and Noem and Trump in prison to rot out the remainder of their pathetic lives.

Queens Neighborhoods United, a group representing Corona, Elmhurst, and Jackson Heights posted a statement about the abduction of 7 community members from the same corner in Corona, Queens. They describe that federal agents cycled in and out of the block kidnapping ppl throughout the afternoon.
A sympathetic Supreme Court would have legal ground to work with, and the SC can be made sympathetic with sufficient control of Congress, the presidency, and state govts. Sufficient political will can accomplish almost anything - and there is no path back to democracy without de-Trumpification.
I really think that every pardon and every appointment made by Trump, at least in his second term, needs to be invalidated. I know that sounds far-fetched, but he *is* ineligible for the presidency under the 14th amendment, section 3 - could that be a path to nullifying many of his actions?
Edmund LaCour, the solicitor general in Alabama since 2019, finally got a federal judgeship. After a failed nomination in Trump's first term, he was confirmed on a 51-47 party-line vote last week to a seat on the Northern District of Alabama bench.

The Trump administration told a federal judge on Monday that it plans to use the SNAP contingency fund to cover 50% of November allotments to current eligible households — but that it might take states “a few weeks to up to several months” to disburse the money.

ISP fired ~only a few~ rounds of pepper balls last night in Broadview and we really need folks who haven't experienced these to understand how irritating and noxious they are. I wasn't even in direct line of fire, but the powder lingers. This morning: throat/sinuses are still in awful shape.
Militarized local, state, & federal police used physical violence, chemical weapons, & the threat of dogs (as in, multiple - terrible) against people outside the Broadview ICE jail this afternoon. I still have a cough, sore throat, & breathing problems from it, even with a respirator mask.
Outside Chicago—

State police and sheriff's officers at Broadview detention center are out in riot gear.

A large Halloween demo is being prevented from doing a Jericho walk through the intersection.

Arrests of protesters ongoing. Troopers have also assaulted multiple reporters already.

ICE has been staging in this parking lot. Local patrolers called an impromptu protest. Thousands of honking cars affirm to neighbors that the invasion cannot stand. Dozens getting to know each other, exchanging tips on identifying ICE cars to stop the next kidnapping, etc. Little things help.
This is a gap that LLMs are now exploiting with their dangerous "therapists." Isolation is such a key factor in fueling and worsening mental illness, and by turning "traumadumping" into an antisocial act, we cut people off from the kinds of support that have kept human beings alive since ever!
I'm a big believer in psych therapy. and its irreplaceability for many mental health issues. However, I worry we've created a discourse that unintentionally discourages people from opening up about trauma to family, friends, and other IRL support outside of therapy, which remains very inaccessible.
I think that it is much better in any circumstance to open up to a real person, a family member or acquaintance or whoever, even if the circumstances are not ideal. That can evolve into a supportive relationship that breaks through isolation - talking to a chatbot never will.
I think that is much more likely than the idea that typing back and forth with "MechaHitler" will do anything but harm to a person's mental health. And I don't think the standard of "equipped to do so" should be so high as to discourage people seeking help from real people they know.
Sure, but I think it's an incorrect assumption to say that it's better than "unloading" on a real person. A real person can help - Grok cannot, and never will.
Is it though? Do we not think this man is capable of opening up to someone in a bar in a respectful way, and maybe making a friend? Do we think he will be better equipped to socialize in a healthy way after using a chatbot as a "therapist"?

I really do think public opinion about police is shifting significantly under the surface - and more importantly, I think people will be very receptive to whatever ideas come from the leaders who defeat MAGA. They will have an enormous amount of political capital to spend, and vast possibilities.
When we defeat the fascists, I hope there will be the political will to, at the very least, disarm police and prohibit weapons like tear gas on a national level.
Just came from a local organizing meeting & my god people the cops are never ever ever ever gonna be on “our side” especially in a police state
Our imaginations have been so captured we can’t imagine our way out of this trap it’s literally the #1 obstacle ppl want to rely on what made this possible
