Science belongs to the public. That’s why it was so special to share our Community Science Data Talks project on public radio!

When climate science and public media are under pressure, I’m reminded that informed, empathetic conversation is a form of civic action.

Promotional graphic for Gale Sinatra’s Scopes Symposium lecture Science Denial and Teaching Evolution. Gale Sinatra, wearing glasses and a patterned shirt, stands at a podium speaking with a smile. The text reads “Gale Sinatra – Science Denial and Teaching Evolution.” Logos for Vanderbilt Evolutionary Studies and the National Center for Science Education are at the bottom, along with a small image of two raised hands pressed against glass.

In this year's season finale, we identify our Most Noteworthy Papers. Congrats to @imogenherrick.bsky.social for being recognized as Laurence's top paper!

"How Do These Data Make You Feel?" really made an impact on both of our practices.

Climate change and mental health are hugely interrelated on every level from the neurobiological to the social. People's denial, grief and anxiety is standing in the way of action and we can't solve climate change without dealing w/ it. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

The day started with tragedy with political violence in MN and instead of being scared, neighbors SHOWED UP to stand together at No Kings Twin Cities. We packed the Capitol Mall all the way to the Cathedral. Estimate 80,000+ right now. So proud of our state. #nokings #indivisible

Oil prices spiked due to more aggression from a country currently committing genocide.

Renewable energy prices were unaffected.

Do you like entrusting your country's economy to the whims of genocidal maniacs?

If not, you have options.

Just in NIH grants, It looks like beautiful Iowa City, home of the U of Iowa, will lose $71m in funding. That's almost $1k per resident. And that's before all the other cuts to SSA, FDA, etc.

Anyone in Iowa City that can offer more insight?
