This was such a fun photo to set up, taken by Thomas Reiter through a sleep station window on Mir. The sun was so bright we were all squinting like crazy. But I love how it shows the texture of the Shuttle's rough, protective hide, and the glimpse of humanity (and my moustache) against the universe.

The American Psychiatric Association did review it and it was so scathing that no reputable journal would ever have published this report with such glaring conflicts of interest, methodological flaws, and a refusal to even name the authors. The Endocrine Society and AAP declined to engage w/ it.

Another highlighted section reads: "While the Report is clear about the potential harms of intervening medically, it does not apply any kind of rational scrutiny to potential harms that have been associated with withholding intervention, including higher rates of depression, anxiety, suicidality, and social withdrawal." The text notes the Report draws heavily from the Cass Review, which has been criticized for its methodological flaws. Finally, three academic studies/reports are listed for further reading, concerning psychosocial functioning in transgender youth after hormones and psychological outcome after puberty suppression.
