For some, a successful divorce is a HEA. Some have transitioning as their HEA. For some, their HEA is raising

it'd be weird for their HEA to "settle down". They want to travel! Let them see the world! Yes they can do it with their partner if they don't have conflicting goals, but let the first character travel first and foremost!

I think it really depends on what is more satisfactory to me as a writer and what the point of the whole story is. I also don't believe in robbing the audience of a HEA just to somehow get a twist in the last minute. If the point of the story is "fragility of life" then also let us see the aftermath

I like HEA but I don't think it suits every story. some of my favourite stories are in fact tragedies. Still love HEA if it feels like a natural progression of the story and works with the characters.

I personally write more of "neutral" endings or "seemingly HEA, but at what price?"

I would try to see if you can get into a domestic violence shelter. women's shelters are more common but if you dig a little you might find one that takes everyone in. they usually have resources to support victims and probably can help you suss out your options.
