I would add to 1) believing everyone deserves an opportunity to learn
A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

Caturday night.

I saw a woman on my IG feed telling other women to walk without bending their knees. To be “elegant.”
So. Joint problems on the way for those folks.
People who don’t know how the body works should not give movement coaching.

We call this “the Jan6 episode” of “DS9”.

Cheers to the women filmmakers (and Noah!!!) of “Impasto!”

We did have more men on our team, lol. But this was our group at the screening yesterday.

I went to support an indie film I worked on at a film festival today. It’s a nice perk of my job.

And now I’m home in bed, totally peopled out.

In a hotel and scrolling the channel guide.

One channel has “Hocus Pocus” on now, followed by “The 700 Club.”

Between the evening programmer and the prime time programmer, one of them did not understand the assignment. Or their demographics.

Reworking my artist statement on my website today.

New things:

Changes I made:

• I value collaboration, co-action, and co-creation. My process, in dance, intimacy, and movement work, aims to draw out and on the ideas of those performing, to center creative agency and consent.

It was not a perfect day. But a good day.
And I needed a good day with some artsy people.

Integrity isn’t saying the right stuff or nice stuff.

It’s doing the right thing- even if it costs you personally because it’s still the right thing.

I’d rather be trying and failing at collaborating than being successful at having people do things my way.

In my ( very rural) hometown, a property tax increase to support more library funding is up for a vote.
The amount of people saying “I don’t use it so I won’t fund it” is wild to me.

Community is not about what is best for you. It’s about wanting the best for all of us.

Absolutely brutal day at rehearsal that had me going home to drink and sleep and rethink all my life choices.

My colleague Gregg is in this.

And it’s important. And funny.
Welp, here it is: maybe the funniest thing we've ever done, in its entirety.

Double checking my citations is my least favorite part of writing and editing.
I have brilliant sources and want to give them credit. Also, I don’t know what page it was on.

Our regular ground coffee went up $1 & frozen meat-free meatballs by 20 cents. Our regular gin went up $2.
There’s restaurant we go to about once a quarter & order the same thing every time - my order went up $1 & his went up $3.
We’ve noticed these changes all in the past couple of weeks.

When reviewing and making changes on the page proofs of your book, is it normal to want to throw it out and start all over?
Asking for me.

I was so bummed when I didn’t get a certain TT FT dance teaching job last year.
I am now so grateful because if I had it, I would have had to quit because of the absolute nonsense that administration is doing and allowing.

Excellent reading. Saving this article.
After some months of thinking about, and digesting the literature on, the use of AI in schools, I believe that we're not only overestimating the capabilities of LLMs but underestimating the essence of education. Here's the expanded version of my new Ed. Week essay: www.alfiekohn.org/article/ai/

Having such a terrible experience at Quest Diagnostics.
830 appt. 815 I checked in (and there was no empty seats in the waiting room) with the option to have them text me when they were ready.
Received no text.
Came back at 915 and my name was not longer on the board.
