It's my personal mission to find and kill whoever decided "what if someone accidentally opens their DVD case, let's put two little locks on it they have to open first before they can open the case proper."

Heard MTV is shutting down its music only channels, tbh I thought those shut down years ago when streaming came up. Got me thinking about this video again, which was from 2012(!), the decline was a long time coming.
Why Doesn't MTV Play Music Videos Anymore?

"Resolutions" feels loaded to me so I use "goals", that said, what goals y'all got for 2026?

I'm going to try to clear my vidya and book backlogs more then I did in the previous year. Feel like I did around 20 books, and I know I did about 26 games because Steam literally told me so.

I was thinking about what gifts people used to give to readers (besides gift editions of famous poets' work and illustrated histories of wars and such), and while I was thinking about it, somebody brought a book to the counter....

Returned Drywall Eating Simulator. Enjoyable parts (Eating drywall) were not enough to overwhelm the not enjoyable parts (Not eating drywall), and used that refund money and some other dosh to pick up two more games (Blade Chimera and Anger Food) because my backlog will never shrink.

Finished off Hard to be a God, which was both depressing and salient. Now on to Starter Villain. The third book of @scalzi.com I'll have read, after Redshirts and Kaiju Preservation Society.

@greatdismal.bsky.social talks about "the jackpot" in some of his novels not a single breakdown, but a mess of small things adding up, of unintended consequences.

Reading this made me shiver, and feel that this is a harbinger of exactly that pattern.
