Life in the shoe:

The good people at Diffords note today is the anniversary of the first Oktoberfest (1810, apparently), so cocktail of the day is a Munich Negroni Western Style, which sounds like it should be wrong in countless ways, but is fact is a subtly distinctive, nutty variation!

🍸🧚🏼‍♂️
Bottles of sweet Vermouth, bourbon, Campari and Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur) in a row behind a rocks glass containing a deep orange-coloured cocktail (Munich Negroni Western Style) garnished with a slice of orange and dark chocolate, over a big lump of ice. A mixing spoon sneaks into the lower left side of the pic.

Life in the shoe:

Sitting quietly in the kitchen and listening to the awesome sound of 20yo upstairs shredding his guitar like a total metal legend!

This sounds genuinely interesting. Successive governments have largely ignored or dicked about with the children's workforce since the CWDC was closed down, and in the absence of any govt strategy, this could be an answer.

An academy trust is to launch a 'one of its kind' higher education institute for non-graduates working with children to train as teachers, social workers, counsellors and SEND specialists

They (loudly, constantly) tell the third to stop marching up and down the carriage. But he's stompily fed up because he doesn't have a screen.

Briefly drowned out by a pair of lairy drunks, each proclaiming the other is "movin' farkin' mad, farks sake, why?" (2 stops only, thankfully).

Interminable journey back from town on a Sunday train that's crammed an extra five stops into its sedate itinerary.

Wound up slowly but steadily by the three children whose parents have given two of them YouTube enabled phones (sounds on loud, different shows).

Went with 18yo to see this today and it is glorious!

The exhibition is on till January and I'll definitely go again. Took my breath away so hard, one of the rooms brought tears to my eyes.

Surely just another one of those absolutely *humongotastic* total coincidences.

Again.

It's a guaranteed little pleasure each weekend. I enjoy making them and exploring new recipes, as well as returning to old favourites.

Is Afghanistan vs Pakistan one of those wars Trump has ‘ended’ or does he not yet have an established grift in the region?

One of my fave The Bad Place accounts was the Ulysses bot, that tweeted a line at a time through Joyce’s Ulysses (and a related account that did Finnegan’s Wake).

I’ve just found the Spenser Dispenser sharing the Faerie Queen in a similar way and I wonder, has Ulysses turned up here yet?

You are doing sterling work here.

So. Much. This.

"A future president, even dumber than you, will allow Qatar, the country that harbored Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the architect of the plane attacks in NY, PA, and DC today, and whose royal family will help him escape capture by the US, to build a military base on US soil to train Qataris to fly jets."

Even if this was actually true, it sounds like a reasonable trade. (And if we were OK in principle about migration, Brits would even survive it.)

And I made coffee ice cream.

Not sure who doesn’t deserve each other more!

Life in the shoe:

DH and 20yo are at dinner discussing the relative merits and demerits of the original Tron, Tron Legacy (the best, apparently), and the as-yet-unseen Tron:Ares.

I cooked a whole epic spag bol for this!!

One of my all time favourite variations ... the Cloudy Mango Vesper.

A frosted martini glass containing a Vesper cocktail, improved by incorporating Cloudy Mango Gin. The glass is flanked by a bottle of said gin and by the cocktail shaker used to make the drink.

A rare moment of gratitude for Reform from me.

Now they’re saying it, others might start believing that councils are chronically underfunded for their statutory duties. If this crowd can’t ‘trim the fat’ or get rid of the waste and excess, perhaps it really isn’t there!

Eight Reform UK councils likely to raise tax next year
Despite Nigel Farage’s promises to cut waste and ‘save a lot of money’, senior officials have now admitted they will likely have to resort to tax rises

It certainly was! Thank you for sharing.

Great episode!

Nerdy point of detail: Sam said that we don’t collect information about children’s wellbeing - but he’s forgotten that we used to. It was called the Tellus survey and it was cancelled when Gove became SoS.
