I would argue that a large part of the progressive problem is that those arguing here are on exactly those middling salaries that have relatively lost out from e.g. higher minimum wages - their support for rising minimum wage was conditional on their own wages also rising... but how?

For progressive folk - if you don't defend those things you say you want - then they will be lost. Because you can already see the argument on the right turning to "we can't afford this".
But you have to build on them. Particularly, understand why raising the floor hasn't made people happy.
