Mutta vaikka ei olisi, niin paljon valtaa yksissä käsissä on jo nykyaikana ja tulevaisuudessa vielä enemmän huikea vaara kaikille meille muille.

Siksi jokainen miljardööri on järjestelmävirhe. Jos sata miljoonaa ei riitä, niin suu säkkiä myöten ja kaurapuuro on halpaa.

Tietysti jos osa metsistä rajataan hakkuiden ulkopuolelle, niin sääntely voi tuottaa uutta niukkuuta. Ja ehkä maksuvalmius sitten parempi, jos arvonlisää tuotetaan enemmän. Ratkaisu on ymmärtää sääntely-ympäristön toimijat ja intressit nykyistä paremmin.

Se vähän riippuu myös puun laatuhinnoittelusta. Eli jos haluttaisiin hyvälaatuista (oksaton, tasasyinen) ja järeää tukkia, sitä olisi mielekästä tuottaa. Suomalaisen tukkipuun läpimitta 18 cm ja toisaalta keskieurooppalainen tavoite 42 cm ovat hiukan eri maailmasta.

En siis lähtökohtaisesti luota valtioon, joka ei kunnioita ihmisoikeuksia ja kansainvälisiä instituutioita. On vain ajan kysymys, koska sellainen valtio kääntyy liittolaisiaan vastaan. Nyt taisi Yhdysvaltojen kohdalla tulla se hetki, tavallista huonompaan aikaan.

These Iranian protesters are so brave. BBC saying that thousands have been killed in this latest wave and that the real numbers are likely to be much higher, but it's very hard to know with their Internet blackout.

Got a cute book from Owlcrate (albeit an individual purchase because the premise sounds fun). Starter Villain by @scalzi.com and I'm interested to get into this one.
The front dustjacket design of the Owlcrate edition of Starter Villain by John Scalzi. The illustration is a painterly depiction of dolphins jumping in the ocean in front of an island. The title has a red crosshair graphic over it. The back design of the dustjacket shows a sunset, a dolphin's tail raised out of the ocean, and a pair of cats watching from a wooden dock. There's also a satellite visible in the sky. A blurb of text says "Humans do a good job of making outcasts." There's an Owlcrate label on the bottom. The book has sprayed edges depicting cats, paw prints, and tuna cans on a teal-blue background color. I only took a picture of the long side, but the shorter edges of the pages have similar designs on them.

i mean this feels like a familiar communist story: paranoia about "capitalist encirclement" leading them to be relentlessly aggressive towards their neighbors "defensively," which of course led their neighbors to defend against them... which, to the communists, just validated their prior feelings
