Well, what if it isn’t the public who have gone apeshit? What if it isn’t tens of millions of people all over the world, and it’s instead these tiny elite cliques of professionals who all know each other personally, refusing to accept the reality of the world they made? Doesn’t that seem more likely

I’m usually giving counsel of despair so let me offer a hopeful note now: all this is the desperate thrashing of a dying generation, horrified to see up close the consequences of raising their children to believe violence and racism are wrong, and that people should treat each other decently.
This one really is useful because you won’t see a more clear demonstration of one of the most damaging political phenomena of the era: the reactionary professional mind rejecting unacceptable reality, only able to process and comprehend it via something close to conspiracy theory.
Former Obama speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz says Jewish students shouldn’t have smartphones until they finish high school — so they don’t see the “carnage” Israel and the U.S. have carried out in Gaza.

A clandestine, college campus-based "cis men only" Discord server gives people free hormones so they can compete for a million dollars. As a result it's all closeted girls, reppers, and eggs with massive insecurities, but still more useful and helpful to transfems than the school's actual GSA.

A couple days after this piece was published, I went to my local TDOR. I had lost a local friend that year to suicide and they were going to honor her that night.

The small gathering was touching. I cried through my friend's commemoration and choked up each time one of the women I wrote about...
Read this piece I contributed to in 2017. This piece, talking with the friends and families of murdered Black trans women, still haunts me to this day.

Pieces like this are just not printed anymore.

So far in 2017, 21 trans people have been reported as murdered. These are their life stories.

I'm struck by this clip of former Obama speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz saying Holocaust education has backfired in part because people Palestinians as victims: "They think the lesson of the Holocaust is…you fight the big powerful people hurting the weak people."

Only two Triple-A titles up for GOTY is pretty cool. Hades II seems a little overrated, but I do look forward to playing more of it. RIP Split Fiction but good for Silent Hill f.

Never heard of any of these Games for Impact nominees, must look up. E33 in the indie category feels wrong.

This is like that one cool shot from the bad Game of Thrones finale being glazed with "this will be studied in film courses".

ZA DLC trailers:

-Ansha is an interesting name: Ange + Diancie theming maybe? The A seems deliberate.
-I can't unsee how bad the windows in this game look.
-Galarian Mr. Mime! Garganacl!
-Ok kinda hyped for wild Pokemon with Missingno levels.
-You enter these new dimensions through a donut minigame

I genuinely did not notice how awful the windows look in Legends ZA. For whatever reason I was just like "yeah buildings are boxes, I've played a Pokemon game". Not a good standard to have!

The fact that a lot of leftists despise Power Rangers SPD - one of the best and most sympathetic depictions of legal enforcement in modern media - is a symptom of the fact that a lot of the left has no idea how to actually implement the Defund the Police policy they want to enact. /s
The fact that a lot of leftists despise Parks and Rec - one of the best and most sympathetic depictions of non-cop government in modern media - is a symptom of the fact that a lot of the left has no idea how to actually implement the policy proposals they want to enact.
The reason 30 Rock succeeds years later while parks and rec has aged like a toilet full of milk, is that 30 Rock doesnt shy away from portraying Liz Lemon as an obvious villian with a victim/hero complex, whereas Leslie Knope was played just a straight hero character, even tho she is a neolib shill

"does moderation impact policy outcomes?" is a question popularist pundits can't answer consistently because they have a big tent of "yes, to the left," "yes, to the right but it's worth it", "no", and "I don't care".

I think the crux of these brick wall discussions is that centrists just don't want to **feel** uncomfortable, but just enough of a small number of them actually want transphobic policies that they can't come out and say "fit the complaining to the electorate regardless of policy".
My original question was what exacty policies were the Dems doing, in reality, that was too far left. Because if its the perception of a problem, not the reality, then the Dems don't have to changes policies, just messaging those policies.
November 1, 2025 at 9:44 PM
How exactly do centrists suggest the Democrats lecture trans people out of wanting rights?
November 1, 2025 at 9:32 PM
I think the pretty clear moral line when it comes to talking about the needs of "transsexuals" vs "transgender", is whether the problem is not enough focus on healthcare and the mutability of sex, or that the "transgender" people want too many rights.

Has activism gone too far or not far enough?
