Not sure how to do this. My partner and light of 19 years, @mitzistarkweather.bsky.social has been diagnosed with metastatic (stage 4) breast cancer.

We are hopeful that modern treatment can give her many more years of changing the world.

If you’re able, we could use your help.

Honestly my favorite thing about film discourse these days is how many women are at the forefront and how much that has shifted which movies get discussed.

My whole time growing up, every movie conversation and enthusiast space was absolutely dominated by the most irritating dudes you can imagine.

I heard basically nothing about Italian horror directors until Tumblr, even within horror friend circles.

I remember Day of the Dead being widely considered the worst in the series by far, but people have REALLY come around on it.

Also, all my love to the girliepops reexamining 2000s horror.

throwing this prompt from Twitter in here. what examples you got?
tweet by @Caol_MacCormaic that reads, uncs of film twitter: what are some movies that are canonical now but were basically unknown when we were coming up? like Come and See or Possession. inversely: what are some movies or filmmakers that seem to have fallen off? (Takashi Miike comes to mind)

Oh, Silva Saga 2!! How could I forget. Very simplistic, but it has a lot of charming flavor text and nice animations.

I could go on literally forever. I think I’ve only played maybe 2 SNES RPGs that I didn’t like or wasn’t at the very least enamored with in some obtuse way lol

Soul Blazer rules, Terranigma moreso, Arcana is a personal favorite, Heracles 3 and 4 are great, Lufia 2 is a must play, Mystic Ark is very cool and unique, Bahamut Lagoon is a masterpiece, Live a Live too, Rudras rocks, Dragon Quest V is the best JRPG of all time, but the DS version is better.

Bro, the amount of people that tried to defend Stadia to me right up until the end.

Reminder that the 3DO, R-Zone, Jaguar, CDi, Game.Com, Virtual Boy, and 32X were all brilliant decisions approved by a board of genius executives!

It never ceases to amaze me how folks line up to rationalize what appears from the outside as corporate ineptitude.

Then, once the dust has settled, the people from within said corporation say: “We had no idea what the hell we were doing.”

interesting take on the state of xbox by one of the people who built microsoft game studios, with some rare frankness about the business model

Wait no, I’m thinking of these lol. I thought this shit was so sick in 1999 and used them to make my own Valentine’s cards.

Wait. THIS is where those 3D renders that always floated around Geocities originated from!?

I wrote a long article about Rieko Kodama, her career at Sega, the evolution of her company, the games she worked on (including some canceled games and/or games for which she is not credited), the status of women and working conditions in the video game industry, etc.

Counterclockwise from top left: Rieko Kodama, Alis and Lutz from Phantasy Star, Sonic in a maze, Alex Kidd and his motorbike next to Flicky on a waterfront pier, Joe Musashi and his dog near the Statue of Liberty facing a skyline, the three playable characters from Golden Axe seen from behind on the edge of a cliff, and one of the flying ships from Skies of Arcadia.

I’m ride or die for gooch, going on 20 years now. I’ll always have respect for how intentionally they push to evolve as artists and performers. Really great show as always.
