The question is whether what actually ended up happening yesterday was the final agreement of these negotiations
It's wild to think that the US killed all those people in the boat strikes, and spent millions in a military campaign, just to end up with essentially the same outcome as the "chavismo lite" deal that Delcy & Jorge offered the US through Qatar last year.

The so-called Ker-Frisbie doctrine needs a rethink for a situation in which there is simply no international treaty authority that justifies the capture/extradition of a suspect, let alone if a war of aggression and/or other war crimes are involved in extradition.

'The only expectation I seek to reset is that of small expectations.'
- Mayor Zohran Mamdani
Our resident analyzer of political rhetoric, Harold Meyerson, viewed Zohran Mamdani's speech yesterday and saw it as a homeboy speech, a tour of New York City, meant to stress identification and reassurance, legitimacy, and commitment. Here's his report:

Enter, Stage Left, Mayor Mamdani            - The American Prospect
Rather than tell his fellow New Yorkers to lower their expectations of what government could do, the city’s new mayor vowed that “the only expectation I seek to reset is that of small expectations.”

Elected Democrats haven’t done nearly enough to oppose attacks on gender-affirming care. They risk being on the wrong side of history.

When I saw the claim that someone on the left had "capitalized" on conservatives' views on Israel, I had my doubts. They were not diminished by the fact that the only evidence presented in the article is that Medea Benjamin had a meeting with MTG. That is a LONG way from results at the ballot box.

The statement on the FCC website was just brought up in a congressional hearing as one small example of the FCC's independent status. They responded as if changing the wording on their website justifies stripping an agency's longstanding independence. That is idiotic.
