Just ordered that new Metal Gear game from Amazon because it was $30 and they offered two delivery options, both of which were today. Calm down, this isn't urgent. I shouldn't even have bought the damn thing in the first place really.

"Sold out screenings are good for the movies," I keep muttering to myself as I sit amongst all these people.

Making a rare cinema trip to watch a new movie this evening. Haven't kept up with Panahi but feel like I owe him my attention for his commitment to, "pissing off the right people."

People getting all worked up over this but it's fine, the company said they're NOT like Enron. That's all I need to hear.

Someone at work reported Variety's Best Comedies list so I took a quick peak and found this line: "Poor Things recalls 70s movies like That Obscure Object of Desire, positioning its maker as this generations Luis Buñuel." Okay, that is kinda funny.

Everything became cooler if Udo Kier showed up and by God, he might show up anywhere. His journey ends but he'll still be surprising me years from now. RIP.

I think I'd be an okay drummer so long as the band had another drummer to start me off.

I kinda love that I still have no idea what Wicked is about, besides "Wizard of Oz adjacent?"

How did I end up with three copies of the programs they gave out for Phantom Thread?

It is frustrating to be reminded Trump could be the most progressive president in the nation's history if he somehow was surrounded by progressives. He can be convinced to do anything if he thinks it's his idea and it will make people say nice things about him.

Celebrating Björk's birthday with Unison, the greatest love song ever written, from Vespertine, which may be the greatest album about love.

God of War: Ragnarok status: Last night I survived the tedium of an extended game section where you walk around a large circle collecting food for animals while two characters talk incessantly. This section legitimately might have taken 90+ mins to wade through.

Rephrasing this, I think earlier generations of filmmakers created images by asking what should be there, and why, while today's generation ask, what was on the screen when I felt a certain way watching someone else's movie and how can I notch it to "11." They're drowning in metatextual remove.
Classic film saw people recreating specificities of their own, varied lives while dwelling in genuine awe of grand natural locations and the rigorous undertaking of creating cinema spectacle. Today's filmmakers seek to recreate the images they first saw on TV in their parents' living room.

This is an interesting video and I think the general ideas are correct even if it may not entirely hold up to rigorous analysis. I suspect underpinning this are two interconnected elements...
this is fantastic, a thorough and compellingly argued theory of modern cinematic sludge

I have no intention of watching it, but it does feel like a dig.
Why is Chicago getting neither the 70mm or 35mm print of THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR? Honestly rude.

Went to a preview of the Christkindlmarkt and it was very nice. It's really lovely when it isn't thronged with bodies. Probably won't head to the downtown one again this season but I might drop by the Wrigleyville one now and then.

Firmly believe the new sofa I ordered, which probably won't arrive until March, will fix everything in my life.

This sucks. This was my local theater when I lived in Louisville and while they weren't perfect, they did try to maintain some repertory and local programing and that's more than anyone else was doing, at least until Speed opened a dedicated art cinema. A real loss.
