NO OFFENSE: A MEMOIR IN ESSAYS is now available for preorder! It’s about all the uncomfortable questions, conversations, and assumptions I’ve faced re: queerness and gender. But it’s also about love and representation and the awkwardness of growing up. elj-editions.com/no-offense-a....
NO OFFENSE: A Memoir In Essays
When Jackie “came out” in 2014, right as the Trump era was revving up, she began paying closer attention to the inappropriate questions, uncomfortable reactions, and pointed assumptions about sexua…

It's particularly galling to call for ICE to wear body cams when Renee Good's murder literally recorded the whole thing on his phone. He was so confident in his impunity as part of that organization that he recorded and allowed for the release of footage of him shooting a woman at point blank.

I have been working out fairly consistently for the last 5 weeks or so and I am sorry to report that it does in fact have a positive impact on my mental health. 🙄

For me, one of the most disturbing parts of Renee Good’s murder has been the photos from inside the vehicle. Blood everywhere among her and her family’s every day mundanities: a sticker-covered water bottle, gloves, kids toys. It was just another day, and then it wasn’t.

There is nothing that is happening in 2026 that’s not built on a solid base of white supremacy. If you are outraged by ICE (and you should be) look closely at how the police behave in your own community. It started there.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

They are selling these at the secondhand baby clothes store in case you wanna raise your child to be a lesbian.

I actually honestly don’t understand the whole AI thing. Not in the like “oh I’m so cool I’m the only one who doesn’t care about this suddenly popular thing” way, but in a “genuinely have never used chat gpt or ever felt the want/need to” kinda way. Like…ppl want to be less creative? Couldn’t be me.

A lot happened for me in 2025, namely publishing a book and becoming a parent. Of course, I want people to read my book, but if you want something quicker, I’m also extremely proud of this piece I wrote for HuffPost early in the year. Support gender affirming care for all!
I Had Life-Changing Surgery The Same Week A Nonbinary Teen Died. It Made Me Face A Sinister Truth.
"There was something disturbing about waking up from anesthesia as a new person while a family prepared to say their final goodbyes to their loved one."

The thing about having a newborn and also having plans on a Saturday night is that I’m more excited to drop him at my parents’ earlier so I can take a nap, than I am for the actual plans.

Saw the first Paranormal Activity with a row of my high school friends - the entire theatre screamed multiple times. Also seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower for the first time and feeling Charlie’s breakdown toward the end so viscerally that I couldn’t breathe.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

The last book I read for #100SmallPressBooks2025 was No Offense: A Memoir In Essays by @jackiedwrites.bsky.social (ELJ Editions). It digs into their life as a queer person today, the travails of planning a wedding or buying a car illustrating awkward and sometimes directly hostile interactions.

Of Blood and Water
It feels like our queer chosen family has been holding its collective breath for years. Yet, we will continue to base our “family plan” on our happiness—not on societal expectations.

For quite some time, it’s been a writing goal of mine to have a piece in @riverteeth.bsky.social’s Beautiful Things. Proud to have made it in with this little essay about my mom, who’s still my best friend.
“I’ll wait in a grown-up chair in the main office with my bigger-than-me backpack, my legs swinging in anticipation of what the rest of the day could bring.”
