Just a gramma who sews and writes. Author of SUNSHINE GIRL, Heliotrope Books, 2025.
This post is so lovely and wise and unexpected on Thanksgiving Eve. Is your gathering a sum or a subtraction. Could it be both? Also, I can't wait to read Conversations with Women in Blue by the lustrous @bethkephart.bsky.social!
What to do with my gratitude? Thank you, The Porch, for honoring my new project, Conversations with Women in Blue, with your 2025 Creative Nonfiction prize. Thank you, John T. Edge, judge, for your deeply thoughtful words. www.porchtn.org/happening/po...

Impeach, convict, remove.

And if our current leaders won’t do it, they need to step aside for people who will.

Excellent reporting in a timely and heart-rending story by Michelle Cottle. "America is aging. Fast. We need leaders who understand the scope of the challenge and take it seriously."

The human and financial costs of the graying of America are the engine behind my new novel about end-of-life care.

"The Epstein emails are a kind of prequel to the present. This is what these powerful people, in this mesh of institutions and communities, were thinking and doing — taking care of one another instead of the general welfare — before it got really bad."

That stupid editorial in this morning's WaPo about how naming the criminals in the Epstein files is unfair really sticks in my craw.

Crow: "It just tells us everything that we need to know that reminding people to obey the law, reminding people to obey the Constitution, is somehow criminal in Trumpworld and should be responded to with death threats. It's very, very telling."

Just deep-cleaned the blinds above my kitchen sink, listening to '60s folk music while wiping and dusting, which mostly kept me from thinking about how our president is a monster for a good three or four rousing, danceable rounds of "Lyndon Johnson Told The Nation."

I know I’m a libtard but I think it’s bad the U.S. president keeps calling for the killing of specific sitting elected officials who didn’t even commit crimes

Donald is losing control and he knows it.

Not cowed.
JUST IN: A tidal wave of 30,000 students hit the streets in Charlotte, walking out to confront ICE with sheer numbers and zero hesitation.

This is a generation refusing to be controlled.

Post-developmental edit, I'm revising my second novel, which tackles end-of-life care in America. Grateful for these words from the magical @bethkephart.bsky.social: "I wholly endorse Nancy’s new work and deeply hope that it will find its way into the hands of many readers through the right press."

@kathlenepostma.bsky.social I thought of you.
I'm participating in #folktaleweek2025. Prompt 1: NIGHT

To see this in triptych form, check it out over on IG. The challenge this week was to:

1. Make a triptych.
2. Use a flat folk-inspired style.
3. Tell a story.
4. Same color palette all week.

OMG. There is no one who will ever convince me this man isn't the absolute worst ever.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Just a thought: How about we stop protecting the reputation of powerful, rich child rapists, and start bringing powerful, rich child rapists to justice?

Playing good cop, bad cop is a fun little game.
Mike Johnson: "Democrats are trying to use the Epstein matter as a political weapon to distract from their own party's failures. In a desperate attempt, they're trying to somehow tie President Trump to the scandal. President Trump has nothing to do with it. He said himself he has nothing to hide."

It’s amazing that after 15 years, the GOP is FINALLY coalescing around a healthcare plan of sorts and it essentially amounts to “fuck it, you do it.”
Trump: "THE ONLY HEALTHCARE I'LL SUPPORT OR APPROVE IS SENDING MONEY DIRECTLY BACK TO THE PEOPLE W/ NOTHING GOING TO THE BIG, FAT, RICH INSURANCE COMPANIES, WHO HAVE RIPPED OFF AMERICA LONG ENOUGH. THE PEOPLE WILL BE ALLOWED TO NEGOTIATE & BUY THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, INSURANCE. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!"

What's that you say? The United States Mint has stopped producing pennies? If there are no more pennies to put in that amusement park machine that flattens them and makes them look funny, apparently my whole childhood was a lie.

The political gamesmanship over the Epstein files is unreal. Keep the focus on victims and survivors.
NEW: Epstein survivors release the most powerful PSA I have ever seen.

Make this go viral so every member of the House of Representatives sees it.

I just don’t see how we can pretend even for a moment that anything involving our federal government is remotely normal when the president is covering up his involvement in a child sex trafficking ring. Like, what are we doing here
